You wouldn't actually need to for the present time as I was saying that in a general sense about how MS is making a few changes. A friend who is a bit hard headed on the other hand says he has to have a key and he will wait when explained 10 was available free at the present time.

One of the things I do suspect will be seen next year once the promotion is over and MS has fine tuned things to finally get back on track to where they had been with 7 in seeing a rather bug free version while the 10240 presently out isn't the way 7 was in beta form but progressed a bit past where the RC had been at the time. Maybe then 8, 8.1 will become a bad memory?!

    Thank you again Brink.
I tryed resizing the partition after installation as you suggested (with built in disk management), but my maximum shrink volume is not enough. I read somewhere this is due to unmovable files. If I use a third-party software, will it work without compromising those unmovable files? Which software would you recommend to an inexperienced user?
    Thx

One method to overcome any number of potential problems is booting live from the media you see created for the partitioning program if not simply working with the DiskPart tool. If you are booted into an OS and that just happens to be accessing something found on the drive or partition you are planning to work with as far as resizing it you can easily run into a snag since one or more files, folders become inaccessible or otherwise unmovable.

Hello Raymond, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

You may have, but if you just happened to click on something at the same the same time the Networks flyout was opening, it would have closed without you even noticing it.

Luckily, you can always manually set it using an option in the tutorial below.

I seem to be stuck at step 11, not really sure where to begin here. I have attempted to read steps 12&13 several times but my eyes continue to glaze over.

I don't know what a UEFI is, never heard of it before. Also not sure if I should remove the 'Recovery' and 'HP Tools' partitions that came pre-installed on my comp.

    Hello Double, :)

That's ok. You can still be able to delete all partitions on the drive you want to install Windows on until it's "unallocated", then select the "unallocated" drive and click/tap on Next to continue to step 14.

If you like, you can use the tutorial below to see if you are currently using UEFI or BIOS.

The UEFI stands for Unified Extensible Firmware Interface.

    What is UEFI?

Applies to Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1

UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) is a standard firmware interface for PCs, designed to replace BIOS (basic input/output system). This standard was created by over 140 technology companies as part of the UEFI consortium, including Microsoft. It's designed to improve software interoperability and address limitations of BIOS. Some advantages of UEFI firmware include:

    • Better security by helping to protect the pre-startup—or pre-boot—process against bootkit attacks.
    • Faster startup times and resuming from hibernation.
    • Support for drives larger than 2.2 terabytes (TB).
    • Support for modern, 64-bit firmware device drivers that the system can use to address more than 17.2 billion gigabytes (GB) of memory during startup.
    • Capabililty to use BIOS with UEFI hardware.

    Note

    • All 64-bit versions of PCs running Windows with a logo from the Windows Certification Program will use UEFI instead of BIOS. To learn more about your PC's support of UEFI, see the product info that came with your PC.

Hey, thanks for the fast response. Finally found out what's happening here. This may sound weird but this is what's happening to me.

Making bootable usb through the media creation tool will result :
    -not getting asked network location
-there is less(or not at all) restart after entering serial key, choosing privacy option and before choosing who own this pc and Microsoft account.

Make bootable with direct iso download+rufus will result the opposite of those things above. Or try download ISO from mediacreation tool and make the bootable usb with rufus.

New problem now is whenever I boot up to Windows 10 Setup in my USB, Numlock are turned off, no idea why. The Windows installed afterwards will also turn off your numlock upon starting up.
It's not the BIOS. Earlier I have Microsoft technician remote control and fix it for me, the installed Windows now fixed. Out of curiosity I boot up again to my USB and the numlock are off again (its on in BIOS). Reinstall Windows and the Windows will turn it off upon start up again. Just FYI/Caution to someone who gets annoyed by this. Can't find the fix yet.
