I noticed an interesting behavior that possibly makes the "tweaks" not only useful, but necessary.

I disabled the Meet Now icon via Settings > Taskbar > Turn System icons on or off a few days ago. When I checked today the Meet Now icon was no longer available on that screen to enable. I wonder if anyone else noticed this also? I don't have Skype installed so maybe everyone sees it at least once as a sort of promotion, but once you disable it it's gone unless you have Skype installed?
    Hello MrMoerby,

I've noticed the same thing, but this is even with Skype installed for me.

The Meet Now setting seems to come and go.

Mine appeared today after a restart. I just hid the icon.

Most interesting is that I removed Skype from my machines a LONG time ago, so what drive by shooting did this one target?

    Hey Steve,

I suppose also uninstalling Skype may do the trick, but I'll be hunting to see if there may be a new group policy available to disable it.
I don't have skype installed and this meeting thing still showed up, although I have no idea if it actually works. Other than the taskbar icon I've not been able to locate it anywhere on the computer.

For those wanting to remove skype: I used Revo Uninstaller to remove it (and other stuff), but you can remove almost all the built-in applications through the powershell. Instructions on this page: Uninstall Apps in Windows 10

Just be aware that article isn't updated for the current versions of Windows and certain things, like Cortana, can no longer be completely removed without breaking something else.

Meet Now for Skype? Why not just Skype icon? Solution!

I just can't believe MS would bother with an extra Icon, windows integration testing cost and programmer time for just a convenience, if it was not something to do with money on users using Zoom. This should be antitrust violation for unfair competition. Where is the program or function description of exactly what in the world did they need to do that for info? The other problem is not having a choice of having the function installed and the fact that they did not say that it was compatible with Firefox, why?

    Solution to other comments:
Make it easier on yourself and get Winaero system tweeker. It will let you search for an option then explain what the setting does. Have a great day!

Luckily, you can use option 4 or 5 in the tutorial to completely disable the Meet Now feature if wanted.

Hello. I am on the latest 21H1 version. I just got the optional update that enabled news and weather widget.

But all this time, I still haven't got the meet now button. And under personalization it does not appear.

The registry file does not make it appear either. Is there anything else that can make it appear?

Hello, and welcome to Ten Forums.

I'm not aware of any regional restrictions, but it looks like you may have to wait until the feature eventually arrives.

    Hi,

This icon seems to be gone now, or is it just me?
