    dism cannot find source

I have just spent ca 40 minutes researching and composing a reply, but on pressing the back button as required by the system, the entire message was deleted.

The computer is new but scannow shows that a number of Windows accessory files are corrupted, both the working and in the cache.

I therefore ran dism using the original installation disc.
    "
    C:\Windows\system32>dism /online /cleanup-image /restoreHealth /source:e:\sources\install.wim /limitaccess

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
    Version: 10.0.10586.0

    Image Version: 10.0.10586.0

    [==========================100.0%==========================]

    Error: 0x800f081f

The source files could not be found.
Use the "Source" option to specify the location of the files that are required to restore the feature. For more information on specifying a source location, see Configure a Windows Repair Source.
    "
The E: drive was not accessed.

    I ran C:\Windows\system32>dism /online /cleanup-image /restoreHealth /source:e:\sources /limitaccess
The E: drive was accessed, same error.

I downloaded the ISO file and burnt it to a DVD. Dism with install.esp - same error
I copied the install.wim from the installation disc to C:\windows - same error
    Ran dism /online /cleanup-image /restoreHealth -same error
Ran dism /online /cleanup-image /checkHealth - "The component store is repairable."

I think the virus corrupted the system files. Could it be preventing access to the source file?

The most common reason for this error is the format of the ISO you are using. If you downloaded using Media Creation Tool, the format used is not suitable for DISM. You need to download the same build and version from Tech Bench Tech Bench

You do not need to burn it to a DVD or make a thumb drive. Unblock the file (in properties). Mount the ISO image by opening it with Explorer. In "My PC", you will see the mounted image and the drive letter Windows assigned to it. That is the drive letter to use in your DISM command above.

    dism /online /cleanup-image /restoreHealth /source:e:\sources\install.wim /limitaccess

Change the e to whatever drive letter was assigned. Make sure you run the Administrator Command line, not the normal un-elevated one.

When done, right click the mounted ISO image in My PC and eject it.

"The installation media (ex: ISO or USB) must be the same edition and build as your currently 9installed Windows 10. If it's not, then the repair install will fail."
But must it be the EXACT edition and build I have..like mine with November Update....? Will Media Creator Tool download a consolidated .iso with this? MCT currently running "Checking for Updates" 24 hours so far.

Did you already get the anniversary update?
I mean, is your system still on November Update? Or is just your copy of MCT from the November Update, and your system is on the latest Anniversary Update(build 14393.10)?

I did the Anniversary Update then ran

    Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup&sfc/scannow&Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth&sfc/scannow&pause

as per a previous post and it ran fine..no errors btw.

    Hello kbird, :)

They're actually separate commands separated by the & sign to allow them to run in one line. The pause command allows the command prompt to stay opened (paused until press a key) to see the results.
