Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade  

Just like to thank-you for the excellent tutorial.
Too bad I didn't find this before I tried a dual boot system with a completely clean install of win 10 to a new hard drive.
I bit the bullet (installing a dual boot windows 10 from within windows 7 using a dvd iso) and it fired. I simply want the win 7 OS and not pay the thousands of dollars (yet) for other upgraded software. The next mistake was not disconnecting my other drives which doesn't seem to matter at this point. Doh, lol.
I now have two different problems. The first, when booting, I get two options for booting, windows 7 or windows 7 recovery. Windows 7 works, but windows 7 recovery (which was not there before the attempted win 10 install) does nothing but leave a blank screen for hours, days.

Second, win 10 will only boot when the win 10 dvd is in the drive. This gives me a dual boot option as well, win 10 or win 7 recovery.

I'm just hoping that you can advise me wisely, lol.

I assume I'll have to boot into win 7 and remove the win 7 recovery option. While there, reformat the drive intended for the win 10 installation.

At this point, place the win 10 dvd in the dvd writer and shut down. Turn off the power, unplug all the other drives with the exception of the win 7 OS.
Turn the power back on, boot from the win 10 dvd and select the custom install and do the clean install to the new drive.

Thank-you for your help and any corrections you deem necessary on my plan of attack on a dual boot/clean install.

@Brink, another method I have just found out from @NavyLCDR is to just go to here and click on "Upgrade now"

It is the same as described in the tutorial but even easier (it created $Windows.~GWX and $Windows.~WS directories the second containing installx64.esd in case anyone is interested and wants the .esd)

After the first "Upgrade" button the next I got was the license agreement followed by a standard repair install as described in the tutorial.

Seems a nice and easy (alternative) way to do a repair install if you don't have an ISO already.

I upgraded from 10586 to 10586 without a hitch which I was planning to do anyway.

Hello I would like to know if somebody can help me with my problems.

First I would like to try this repair reinstall but apparently I can't. I have been wanting to this because my installation seems quite bugged/corrupted. The battery doesn't work properly, if I got to sleep/hibernation without being plug it, it shuts down but I disconnect the plug without using any of these modes, the battery works fine unless the screen goes to black, then it turns itself down. If the hibernation option is available in the turn off menu, the laptop gets a watchdog error that turn the laptop off. Mostly I have problems with the drivers, many can't get updated I get a problem with the signature but even turning signature enforcement off would give me an error saying corrupted registry, etc.

I have tried to repair any errors using /scanf and /dism with different options and even with a windows iso 10 loaded to no avail.

I thought my only option would be to try this and I had a lot of hope that it would work. I downloaded the iso installation with recommended settings for my pc using the windows media creation tool but during the installation the installer stops and an message white screen appeared saying "Error- Something happened". I read on some webpages that this error was related to the language/region so I set everything to be Spanish as my installation was Spanish but I had changed some stuff to English for practical purposes. However this didn't seem to work, I decided to try to set everything to English and see if that would work, but it didn't work as well.

Edit: I have also tried to do the install from the windows media creation tool directly, using admin rights, etc.

Any help would be deeply appreciated as I would like to be able to use the battery, update drivers and do not have to correct the drivers every time I plug a usb.
