    Brink,

Build 14332, I edited the registry entry, but still get the update to my Synaptics touchpad, and wondered if can remove the registry entry below the driversearching as seen below to stop getting it (thinking while it may not look for any more drivers, because that one is there it still dishes it out to me, yes? ):

    Hello Marc, :)

The tutorial below should work better for that build instead.

Ah, cool, easy enough in gpedit :)

Should I still remove that cached entry you think?

You shouldn't need to if you disable driver updates in Windows Update, then uninstall the driver afterwards if still installed.

I have had Synaptics touchpad issues ever since Windows 10 Upgrade. I used the old one for many months, they issued one that worked well and I unblocked updates. Last week's 'update' broke it again (no edge scrolling and unwanted Cortana gesture). Follow Brink's tutorial to block further updates and roll back to last working one.

The other issue that many others have with Synaptics touchpad is that your settings are lost on reboot whether you create a profile or not. This regedit will fix that -

    Navigate to:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTP\Install
Note this is LOCAL MACHINE, not CURRENT USER.

Look for a key in that Install folder called "DeleteUserSettingsOnUpgrade"

Double click and change the value to 0

After restarting your settings will be kept because driver will not think it's reinstalling on every reboot.

    Well,

Set the policy - Enabled and rebooted.

    Uninstalled the newest driver, rebooted.

    Installed the older one, rebooted.

On that boot, checked updates, and new one still awaiting install.
Immediately opened gpedit and rechecked the policy, was enabled.

I'm at a loss as to why MS has to force this on us. I can understand OS updates but drivers, grr ... :)
