It is great to know that Picture Viewer can be accessed with Wndows 10. I do have a couple of questions.

    First .......

The tutorial for All User Accounts lists two choices, one is to restore Windows Photo Viewer without the sort fix (#2) and the other is to restore Windows Photo Viewer with the sort option fix (#3). Of these two, which one duplicates the behavior of Windows Photo Viewer in Windows 8 (and I assume Windows 7)?

    Second .....

The tutorial comments for restoring Windows Picture View with the sort fix (#3) says "This option does cause Windows Photo Viewer to be listed twice in Open with -> Choose an app". How does this relate to post number 66 in this thread by PowerDrome saying there are two entries for Windows Power Viewer in the list for optional apps and then Brink provides a file fix in post #67 and then says the tutorial has been updated to include the fix.

Does the restore with the sort fix (#3) now display only one choice in the optioal apps list or is this a different issue than what is described in post 66?

    Thanks.

Hello Bruce, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

If you use OPTION ONE or step 2 in OPTION TWO, it won't be listed twice, but it won't include the sort order fix.

If you use step 3 in OPTION TWO, it will be listed twice, but will include the sort order fix.

Hello Brink ...... Thanks for the Welcome!

Do you happen to know which of the two choices (step #2 or step#3) works the same as Photo Viewer does in Window 8 or 8.1?

    Thanks.

    Step 2 does.

Step 3 is just an option if you prefer the sort order fix.

Brink .... Thanks for the help. I went with option 2 (no sort) and all seems to be working just like the good old days!

The first time I tried installing the fix, I right clicked on the file name and selected Merge. For whatever reason, there was no change and the JPG file choice did not appear. I ended up then double clicking on the file name and that solved the problem. I do not know why the Merge did not work. I thought double clicking was just a quicker way to perform the Merge. Maybe not.

I'm glad to hear that you got it sorted Bruce.

If you like, you might download and merge the .reg file for the listed .reg item in OPTION TWO of the tutorial below to see if that may help with the merge issue afterwards. It'll restore its default association and registry entries.

I LOVE your info and reg scripts. I don't know where I would be without them. I would do a bowing thingy if I knew how to do those. LOL! GIF, I guess it is? Anyway... I just ran across a problem I hope you can help with. I am getting this when I try to open these 2 jpg files... "Windows Photo Viewer can't open this picture because either Photo Viewer doesn't support this file format, or you don't have the latest updates to Photo Viewer".
That file type is set with the viewer as default, per your awesome reg script. But, now I can't find any updates anywhere.
I have a feeling it's my windows 10 fighting back at me because I don't deal with their crap. I usually find a way around their BS. Mostly with your help. Thank you! You are like a God to me, I swear. But just in case I am missing an actual update that's somewhere out there, I figured I'd ask.
Thanks again for everything! I am so not kidding when I say what I say. If I understood certain things a little better, I know I'd be using many more than I do, now. Do you have a list of all of your life saving scripts? Or a dumbed down version of what they all do? I'm not a complete idiot. I've programmed and built computers before. But years ago. I started on a TRS-80, if that gives you any clue. LOL!
Thank you again, and again, and again! (Infinity)
Sorry if I posted this wrong. I don't usually get involved with these things. I just read them, usually. =/
