Sound using speakers but headphones are attached and selected

    Headphones are connected.

In settings, output it set to headphones.

But when I play anything, it ignores the headphones and uses speakers rather.

    Hi.

Have you looked at Sound (in Control Panel) or Sound and Volume Controls by right clicking on the speaker icon, bottom right? (look at the mixer settings.)

Now, is this sound based on the motherboard or a discrete sound card?
What name and model number of your system?

    Thanks.

Are you connecting the headphones with a wired or wireless connection? For example:

Wired connection. Note setting show speaker. Audio output automatically switches to headphones when they are plugged in.

Wireless. Same headphones connected using Bluetooth. Check output is headphones in audio settings.

yeah, wired headphones. When I connect them, it does not modify speakers to headphones. It keeps speakers.

When I go into settings and change it to headphones, it still plays from speakers.

Do you have "high device audio device" listed as your audio device?

That means you didn't install your audio chipset's driver and instead use Microsoft generic audio driver.

Look back at my previous post. It is supposed to show speakers when you connect your wired headphones. When you plug in the headphones to the audio jack the audio is automatically switched to that.

Note also in my previous post the other items shown as speakers are all Bluetooth wireless connections. There is no specific connection for a wired headphone. It will always show as Speakers whether you are using the computer speakers or wired headphone.

If this is not working as I indicated then you may have an audio driver problem. You should try reinstalling the audio driver.

If this is a desktop and you are using the front audio jack then is that even connected properly to the motherboard? If this is a desktop you can also test the headphones by unplugging the computer speakers and plugging the headphones in that jack instead.

The hassle appeared to be with Audacity.

Even though I had headphones selected in windows, there is another place in audacity where you denote output. That was speakers.
