I don't know if It's psychosomatic or real but since updating the driver to 6.0.9175.1 and getting Nehimic to work the sound is so much better. Thank you @sandyt for leading me to the solution to get my soundcard working the way it is supposed to.

" try the new 9191 HDA FF00 generic version. "............yes , installed and very happy with this one , pure and clear sound with a very punchy bass!
Ditto. Seems to be a good driver on my ASRock B450 (wants but is not going to get Creative bloatware), Realtek ALC892 board with Win10 21H1. The only feature missing, like all newer drivers on this board, is the check box to 'make front and rear outputs separate'. Otherwise, full featured, no bloat, good sounding driver. It will be replacing 9151 in my driver stash.

6.0.9191.1 from HP FF00 HDA (lists Win7, works on Win10 perfectly) - just to bring it into the new thread.

Hi Nifas and welcome to TenForums.

From your description ("it downloads some extensions for the Realtek sound card") it seems that the system by default needs to install DCH (UAD) drivers. That's why it automatically downloads the extensions, and that is the reason why the UAD drivers work OK as you said.
If there isn't a particular reason you need the HDA one, I would suggest to stick to the UAD driver, which after all is future proof (for now), whereas the HDA ones get less and less attention (=Updates) by the manufacturers.
Thanks for the reply. I guess i have no choice but to install UAD drivers always. There is no difference in sound after all, only in UI.

The solution is for you to accept that you are just looking for trouble trying to circumvent the new drivers.

Is v6.0.8924.1 showing up in device manager or in the installed programs list?

pal1000's method is to install the last fully generic driver version available, which was 8924 (as Realtek no longer makes a generic version), and then the install forcibly overwrites the driver .sys file with the latest (in this case 9191). Therefore, Device Manager shows the "real" install of 8924, but the .sys file is really 9191 and is shown properly in the Realtek app Information section.

    Cheers

    Release 6.0.9191.1 . pal1000/Realtek-UAD-generic . GitHub

Due to absence of valid and updated copies of HDXRTU.CAT, HDXRT.inf, HDXRTSST.inf and HDX_GenericExt_RTK.inf (or equivalents) new hardware IDs introduced since 6.0.8825.1 are at most partially supported and those introduced since 6.0.8925.1 are completely unsupported.

Since you didn't list your specific laptop model, the first question is whether your laptop manufacturer provides you with these new type of drivers (with realtek audio console) in the first place.

If your laptop manufacturer does provide you with these new type of realtek drivers, then there is a much simpler way to update your driver, 100% official and approximately 3 weeks behind pal1000. Right now, if your laptop does have the new type of driver, you are able to update realtek driver to 6.0.9180.1 via 100% official method. You will be able to install 6.0.9191.1 officially in the first week of August (by that time, pal1000 will have release 6.0.9205 driver).

    Tutorial for updating DCH/UAD drivers

Pal1000's driver package is really for people whose laptop has the older type of realtek drivers (which use Realtek HD Audio Manager) and want to use the new type of drivers (which their computer manufacturers don't provide for their specific computer model).
