On my daughter's ultrabook, when she starts watching youtube videos the audio continually gets quieter until it is mute.
If I open the sound mixer, I can see the sound from the youtube video is still playing at normal volume. But no sound is coming out of either the built-in speakers or her headset.
What causes this, and how do you fix it?
Hi, probably unrelated to your case, but there was an audio issue resolved by a Windows Update:

If a video is played from a file on disk, does the same occur?
And does the same happen with a different browser?
Most Notebooks also have a hardware volume control, usually a key or combination of keys, in addition to the OS controls. I'd get a can of compressed air and blow out the keyboard, could have something interfering with the hardware.
When I open the volume mixer, I can see that the source of the audio is still playing at normal volume. It is just the 'speakers/headset' that shows no volume (or very little). I can still raise, lower, and mute the volume via the hardware keys and that works- all volumes are at 100%. The problem occurs even if after a fresh boot we just open a local video and play it. As several seconds go by, maybe 20, the volume continually lowers until it is nearly mute. Same with IE.If a video is played from a file on disk, does the same occur?

EDIT: I tried to do the update, but it says 'The update is not applicable to your computer'
