The site is hit or miss. I downloaded the driver from softpedia.
same here. the realtek web site has not worked in my area for almost 3 straight days since last Saturday jan. 14.
So I also ended up downloading the R2.81 driver from Softpedia this past weekend.

Techspot also has the R2.81 drivers in case either both Realtek and Softpedia sites are down (for some people).

It's true that sometimes it takes too long to download anything from Realtek that makes you think you are connected to an old 56K modem instead of ADSL or VDSL! That's why I keep most common drivers in my Flash drive so they are available instantly for installation to a customer without losing valuable time to download them.
Realtek's customers are companies making HW and OSs using their chips not end users. But still, I'm often amused how such large IT companies have such bad servers.

There is a new version on Microsoft Update Catalog. The version is 6.0.1.8040.

Before the first page is updated, someone with more experience with Realtek drivers needs to investigate why this driver will not install.

I get a message that the driver already installed is the best one.

Just for kicks, I tried to install this driver and I get the same message on all my PC's with the realtek sound chip. Started with 8037 version.

@Brink I downloaded the latest driver but it doesnt appear to come with an installer. I tried your tutorial on how to install a cab file but DISM reported error 2. Is there a proper installer for version 6.0.1.8040?
