    Word Processing Problem

I'm old. When I was working I wasn't much for collaboration and now, not at all. I don't want to do layouts or exotic document designs. For years I used Windows Office 2003 and was happy. I could type my documents in Word and send them through Outlook. But, time moves on. Now I have Outlook 2013. I can type my emails but I want something for typing longer documents that aren't for emailing.

I tried Microsoft Word 2013 but returned it. Microsoft seems to have put all their energies into developing areas I don't need, like collarboration--even the word gives me willies--and layout and design. All of that simply gets in the way and makes simple document creation a pain.

If I could strip all the unnecessary dross out of Word 2013 it would be fine.

    Any suggestions?

You could give LibreOffice a go. Its MS Office compatible and its free.

This morning after breakfast at 5 a.m. and walking my dog at 7, I decided to give it another go. I got my MS Office 2003 disk and set about trying installing Word again. I'd tired a half-dozen times so I started again, trying to do it a little different than before.

It worked. I don't know if not installing the shared tools was an important step or not or if it was just that MS Word prefers Friday over Thursday.

    Thanks anyway.

I can confirm that Office 2003 works fine in one of my Win10 computers when I upgraded over Win8.1 but I haven't tried any of the 'fancier' features, don't need them. I have also installed Office 2000 on the Tech Preview of Win10 and basics worked.

I think my problem was mixing Outlook 2013 and Word 2003. My problem is I like Outlook 2013 and detest Word 2013.

Oh, I can't send emails directly from Word 2003 to Outlook 2013 now. I could before. I can copy them over but don't mind using Outlook 2013 to write emails and I'll use Word 2003 for letters and other writing.

And, let's face it. As problems go, these are rather petty. Thanks for the help. Now to get Random House Webster's Unabridged Dictionary, from 1999, working.
