Program that worked in Windows 8.1 Pro will not work in 10?

I am not sure where to go at the Microsoft site so will try here.
I have an old program, Microsoft Money 2004 Deluxe, that worked fine in 8.1 Pro.
Supposedly at the 'compatibility' site for Windows 10 it is supposed to be compatible.
But, when I try to run it a box comes up telling me I have to install Internet Explorer 6 before it allow it to open.
Did not have to do that on 8.1 Pro?

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

I would try installing the program in compatibility mode. right click the Setup.exe file and select compatibility mode and take it all the way back to Win 2000 or so. Might work?

By in large anything that worked in 8.1 will run in 10 with no issues.

I'm sorry, I'm sure my response will sound somewhat terse. With my explanation of the problem it is quite evident that your response is not correct. There is a BIG ISSUE.

I did try running in compatibility mode from the installed program. I even tried XP mode. Still the same problem ".......install Internet Explorer 6". Not sure I want to go to the effort of uninstalling and reinstalling. Not that I am lazy but at another site some folks were having a similar problem and even tried the 'Sunset' version and it too would not run. It's quite frustrating that Windows 10 Compatibility site says a program is OK and in actuality it IS NOT.

I installed Office XP/2002 a couple of times and it just ignored IE6. There should have been a Custom install choice where some features not needed could be deselected.

Attempting to run a program/app from 04 is going to be problematic with Win10 I guess. My statement was a generalization covering more current code rather than legacy code.

Just to make sure - have you tried running it as Administrator?

Also, you've mentioned XP Mode. A vanilla XP Mode machine actually should have IE6 installed as default. Is that the case? And you still got the error when running INSIDE the XP Mode machine with XP installed?

I don't use it, but from the posts at the link below, looks like you need the MS Money Deluxe Sunset Edition, free from Microsoft.

I would still try to take is back to at least 2000 or 98 compatibility. I had a program I need to operate my Motherboard in window 8 I took it back to win98 and it worked.

Sounds like its time to switch over to Quicken far superior program anyway.
