If the registry change is used, after updating the install of Win 10 to the new RTM, the problem comes back.
I found that the registry change also caused my desktop icons to go black. I won't hold my breath waiting for MS
to fix this anytime soon.
Of all things Win 10 this [MS Money] was the most important to me and had to work. The solution given here to change the Registry key worked a treat first time and installed [Money] perfectly....thank you. Why can't the Microsoft Gurus just please listen to Users' needs and re-instate their support to Money so that all of their products really do work without work-arounds?
cheers
I made the Registry change and it worked. There actually was 2 entries for the 9 and one for the 11. The second for 9 referred to W2kVersion so changed it also.
I'm another MS Money (all releases to 2002) user and was agast when it refused to run in W10 protesting it required IE 5.5 service pack 1. All my finances are recorded using it. I was all set to go back to W7.
This tweak of the registry work immediately. Thanks immensly; how you unearthed that I don't know!
I am really disappointed about MS Money Plus Sunset not working in Windows 10. I have used this program for many years on my PC and really have never found a good replacement! Version 17 is the last one published online and worked perfect with Win7. It seems like it would be such an easy fix for MS to get it working in Win10; but I am sure it is not a priority for MS.
My dilemma is what to do now? I want/need this program to continue managing my checking account in a manner in which I am comfortable. And buying Quicken is not so attractive as an alternative. I tried it several years ago (briefly) and was not impressed....not to mention there's a cost factor there for Quicken.
Others have indicated they've had success with the registry hack. Personally, I don't really want to do that as I fear it will only cause problems going forward with Windows Updates in Win10. Obviously, I could return to my backed up version of Win7. But I really want to stick with this latest OS....especially since I got a free upgrade to Win10.
Does anyone have any other ideas besides the registry hack? For example, how does a 'compatibility mode' work (if at all)? And are there any programs that come remotely close to the convenience and ease of use in MS Money Plus? If so, I'd really like to know, but I've never seen any good alternatives. It's really a shame that MS discontinued this great program back in 2011. But with Microsoft Money Plus Sunset version (17), people have been able to continue to use MS Money....well at least up until Win10.
I have Microsoft Money 2004 (Deluxe). As I posted earlier it has worked all the way thru OS 8.1 Pro. I have tried to find the HKEY fix that has been posted and I have not been able to find the entry in my Registry. I get to VERSION VECTOR but there are no entries that look like what has been posted. I have 3 entries in the item: (Default), IE and VML. The only number under IE is 9.000 . I have nothing that looks like what is posted to be changed????
l was so full of hope.....now I am deflated. Can anyone tell/show me how to fix? I must (I hope) be not doing something right????
thanks
I finally found the 'Version' and did the "change". It did not work. It still told me to install IE 6.
For those of you who are getting it to work is it because you are using the 'Sunset' version of MM?
Also I am trying to get the MM to work after the upgrade/update to OS 10; where the program was already installed on my OS 8.1 Pro machine. Do I need to uninstall program and re-install it with the OS 10 now?
Help!!!!!!
