    Batch File/ Outdated Application

So I have this old .application file that was originally on the companies computers that was written for Windows 7. What this application did was, when ever a fax came in (we have faxes that are sent to a folder in PDF format) it would activate the application and pop open a window to notify the user of the fax. Hopefully that part was explained well enough.

Is there a type of batch file that I can write to mimic the same function? and would anybody be able to walk me through the code? or point me in the direction of a article/blog or video explaining it. I am working in Windows 10.

    Thank you.
    Respectfully,
    Francis

Hi, there are plenty of tools that can monitor a folder for changes and generate different kinds of alerts. It may be that one would be adequate.

    E.g.

5 Of The Best Tools To Monitor Folder For Changes In Real-time

The question then becomes whether any of them generate a suitable notification in your environment.

These tend to be utilties for the geek rather than for the office environment.

This sounds as if it could be adapted:
filesystems - How to monitor a folder for changes, and execute a command if it does, on Windows? - Super User

I.e. your task is reduced to the type of alert you wish to generate.

This is an outline starter (incomplete) for Powershell if familiar with that:

    Great!

Thank you for your response, and I am going to take a look at these articles and see which one works best for the department. I'll be sure to let you know, so if anyone asks a similar question in the future you can have the answer in your toolbox.
