How can I change the resolution for a specific program?

My default resolution is 1920x1260 but I have one program that runs best at 1260x1028. How can I set it up so the resolution changes when I run that program then changes back when it ends?

I don't think you can do that. You can select the program.exe file, go to the Properties / Compatibility tab and select "Disable DPI scaling on high dpi settings". You can also select "Run in 640x480 screen resolution" but that will be too large.

Thanks. I've tried both of those & they don't solve the problem. I guess I'll just have to live with it for now. The problem isn't technical but I was hoping for a technical solution. The problem's biological-my eyes can't see small details in images any more. (I can see text fine as long as it isn't too small-and text is usually easy to resize.) The technical solution is a bigger monitor-but I work on a laptop & 17" is pretty much as large as it gets, I think. If anybody knows of a laptop with a 20" screen I'd be pleased to hear about it. Thanks.

If you are using laptop at home, you can ad a separate screen to it or even connect to TV set.

Sometimes there are problems with applications. I found iTunes is blurry on a 2560x1440 monitor at 125% zoom but it's OK if you disable dpi scaling. However, you then find that the Store apps don't display correctly and the information on the right hand side is truncated. This appears to be a common problem with Tunes users.

    if you change to 480x640

and go full screen in the game and back out again, you will have a minimized game window that is 640x480

Hi, you could create a shortcut to launch it via a script which
    a. sets the resolution required
    NirCmd Command Reference - setdisplay
    b. launches the program
    c. sits in a loop testing for the presence of the program (process) - and when not present...
    d. resets the screen resolution using nircmd.

The above is realisable in Autohotkey (free scripting language).

    Just a quick idea..

I just tried Nirsoft's Nircmd utility, and it failed to change screen resolution (with no error message). I remembered something from Doug Knox which I used years ago on XP, and whilst I may have the program on an archive somewhere, his web site is no more, and I failed to find his nifty program anywhere (and have no idea if it would cope with W10). So I googled, and found QRES here: Download QRes 1.1

I just tried it and it works fine. A simple batch file does the trick:
    Code:
REM created by MNG 7/6/21 to test screen resn change
REM using QRES from Download QRes 1.1
REM Be careful which download you select!

    path "C:\Program Files\utils"
    qres /x:1024
    MiniToolBox.exe
    qres /x:1920 /y:1080
Note that selecting the horizontal resn (/X:1024) was enough to switch to 1024x768, but specifying just the /X:1920 setting to switch back resulted in an error, and I had to specify /Y also. I got it to run a windows program whilst switched, to confirm that the batch file (as expected) just hangs until control is returned - so no loop necessary.

    Martin, dalchina,

I have also just tried the NirCmd change display resolution command without success.
    - I have never tried it before.
    - I checked its Help and the NirSoft website to make sure I was using up-to-date syntax.
