VLC on Amazon Fire TV box or stick Subtitles stored where ?
Hi there
I like the VLC app on the Amazon Fire TV box or stick --
When playing from your LAN (NAS etc accessed via Browse) there's a facility to Download subtitles - for quite a few ripped movies / TV series it manages to find the subtitles but I haven't a clue where it stores these - as when I play on another smart TV with PLEX it can't find the subtitles. Same If I use the PLEX app on the Firestick TV box so where does it store the subtitles. Any idea anybody.
Incidentally using the VLC app on the fire TV is better in cases than using PLEX as even if transcoding required the CPU on the fire TV box stick is more than powerful enough for it to do the transcoding. If PLEX does the transcoding you might see message "Server not powerful enough to transcode for smooth playback" although sometimes playback is fine --depends on the CPU in your NAS .
Cheers

Normally the subtitles are stored in the same directory as the video file. They have the same name with .srt extension instead of .mkv or whatever.
That is where most players (VLC, Movies and TV app - even my cable box and TV) look for them.

What is the exact VLC app Version we should use on the Amazon Fire TV box?
Hi there
@kalpakci
I've given up with VLC on the firestick these days as it's become too "Hassly" when trying to browse your LAN, the displays are hideous and it's not like the version on a computer.
Install KODI it's really good on the firestick (you don't need any server software on your remote PC / server) and it plays every codec imagineable - both audio and video.
How to Install Kodi 19.0 on Firestick [New & Faster Method for Feb 2021]
Then simply add into KODI (it's simple) the subtitle servers you want -- I use Opensubtitle.org but there's loads of others - have 1 or more if you like. Set the security option to SMB1 if you want to play media from your LAN and particularly with older NAS systems you might need SMB1.
VLC great for computers but on a firestick it's a DOG !!!!
The only disadvantage with Kodi is that it takes a bit of setting up - but with a judicious bit of "RTFM" it will all work. You need also initially to set the firestick into "developer mode" so it can sideload apps --it's an android device so easy enough to load apps.
I started off using VLC on a firestick ages ago -- I've learned better now -- KODI is the way to go on a firestick but on a PC VLC is still excellent.

@jimbo45
Thank you for the link and all these details.
I have already activated developer mode. I am using DLNA Server (DLNAServer - Apps on Google Play) on my Android to stream MKV files to VLC player on the Amazon Fire TV. I'm having issues with the the subtitles as VLC Player cannot find subtitles no matter what I did.
I will install Kodi 19.0.
