Windows 10 App Compatibilty Check - Inconsistent results

I have 2 laptops running Windows 7 Pro. On both of them I have VMWare Player and Virtual PC 2007. On one of them I have additionally installed Windows XP Mode.

When I run the Windows 10 Compatibility App I get different results.

On one laptop I am told I need to uninstall Virtual PC 2007 and I need to uniinstall and reinstall VMWare Player after the Windows 10 upgrade, presumably meaning Virtual PC will not run under W10.

On the second laptop - the one with XP Mode installed - there is no reference to either Virtual PC or VMWare Player or even XP Mode (which needs Virtual PC to operate) needing to be uninstalled.

So I am mightily confused. Can anyone give me a definitive answer regarding these 3 apps?

    Hi there

Virtual PC ( Ms's version of Virtual software) is actually OBSOLETE -- I'm surprised that you've been able to run it for as long as you have.

Get VMWARE VMPLAYER --It's FREE !!. You can convert any VM you are running with Virtual PC into one that will work on VMPLAYER.

XP mode won't unfortunately run - but if your hardware is sufficient you can create a W7 Virtual machine and run XP mode on that. !!!

Note though the latest version of VMPLAYER is only 64 bit (no problem running 32 bit VM's on it of course). Version 10 is available in 32 bit if you still need it.

    Cheers

Jimbo: Virtual PC 2007 may be obsolete but it runs fine under Windows 7 and, yes, I know VMWare Player is free - I'm using it as I stated in my post :) . I thought that XP Mode might not run - I just wanted to check - and Virtual PC as well.

I'm puzzled why I got different results from running the Compatibility app on 2 different laptops - any ideas?

    Thanks
