    Problem installing Windows Essentials/Photo Gallery

Trying to install Windows Essentials, in order to have Windows Live Photo Gallery on new laptop. Installer keeps failing, with message that I need to check Internet connection - which makes no sense as I know my Internet is good each time this happens. Anyone have any ideas on how to overcome this?
(Or a suggestion for a good replacement for WLPG........the new Photos app doesn't have a fraction of the functionality)

Is your antivirus blocking the installer? The Photos App is actually quite good for just viewing photos.

Is it likely to be the antivirus software? I get a Windows prompt asking to give permission to make changes to the PC. Then I get a popup on my screen that says 'Windows Live Essentials 2011 - Preparing to install' with one of those moving lines under it. That churns away for a few minutes, and then I get this error message telling me to check my Internet connection. So there's no indication that the antivirus software is intervening......
I agree Photos App has a few useful features, but is missing a lot of the useful Gallery functionality - face recognition, ability to tag people in pictures and then retrieve pictures with those tags, sophisticated editing capabilities etc etc

Is your Internet connection working at that point or not? Maybe your Firewall is blocking you? Have you checked Control Panel, Internet Options and the Security tab? Sometimes that has to be set at Defaults for other things to work properly.
