I'll do it: OpenWithView is another gem from Nir Sofer, the genius behind NirSoft. The program name is linked to its home page, which has download links at its bottom.

It seems like this should work. I changed the setting so 7z wasn't associated with anything, then went to choose default apps and .7z file wasn't in the list. But everything looks the same in the Open With list when right clicking the file. I even tried uninstalling and re-installing 7zip. There must be some setting somewhere that Windows keeps even when a program is uninstalled. I also ran a registry cleaner in between uninstalling and re-installing.
mine act the same way when I uninstall 7zip, so it likely the 7zip uninstall doesn't remove it ,from the list ,not windows
Looks like ShellExView, which lets you view and disable shell extensions, might do the trick. This is another NirSoft program that will let you pick "Disable" from a right-click to turn off the shell extensions associated with 7Zip. This is what controls their appearance in the right-click Windows menus from Explorer, and should give you the results you desire.
That is, if you right-click both of the 7Zip entries as shown above, then select "Disable" from the pop-up menu, you should no longer see 7zip related items in the Explorer right-click menus. Try it, and see if it helps (link provided above).
