PDF Viewer program suddenly fails in Win 10

    Win 10 Pro 14393.rsi

I'm very fond of PDFviewer by Tracker Software. Even though it is no longer in development it can be downloaded from
    https://www.tracker-software.com/pro...s/discontinued
It's free for private use and has many virtues, like a good OCR. Suddenly, today, windows refuses to open a pdf file with the program. The default is set correctly but dbl clicking on a filename results in "Access Denied" popup and "Open With" has no effect. However, the program will run from a shortcut and I can drag a file into it successfully. I hope this is just a glitch in the current version of Windows. If you know of a way around this I'd like to hear it.

Then download something else like Fox-it.

Can't see why the URL says discontinued but maybe the title was changed. The page shows that PDF-XChange Viewer was updated just a few days ago. The description also says it was replaced by PDF-XChange Editor which is not free. Guess they just want money.

What other answer did you expect? Companies have to make money and also do not have the time or money to keep supporting something that no longer meets today's standards. The business world dictates how the PDF readers are created.

Nuance is the worse when it comes to selling you a license and then when your machine goes tit's up, they want you to purchase another license if you are not able to get to your image of the drive or the backup goes South.

Well, my question was not about Nuance, and Tracker Software still offers the product. I did email Tracker with a copy of my post, but I don't think it's Tracker's fault. I believe it's a quirk with Windows and was hoping someone might recognize it. I'm aware that there are other competent PDF readers out there, but, like old dog Trey, I've grown attached to it.

And I suggested to use Fox-it if you do not want to use Adobe. My last remark was an example about what these companies are doing, it was not a suggestion. Tracker is looking at the fact that they cannot keep handing out free software for life, along with it has nothing to do with Microsoft. Too many jump on Microsoft for every little thing that happens.

It's working fine for me. I also updated it on September 13th (build 2.5.318.0)
    Windows 10 x64 14393.187

Have you tried uninstalling it with any uninstaller tool and reinstalling it from scratch?. The only issue I have under w10 is that I have to manually set it as default PDF viewer by extension.

I love this PDF reader. It's slim. It allows to save PDF as bitmap, you can do some basic writing on PDFs and you can even copy/paste bitmaps into them (nice for adding signatures for instance). There is also an OCR option that works quite well for text.

I would also recommend Foxit. I would also say that if you're using a software that is not performing as expected then find another.

Thanks, all! I just found that Tracker's PDF Editor has a free version, which I downloaded and installed. Works great and I am a happy camper once again. I also downloaded Foxit and will try it out.
