Whatsapp Desktop and another Windows mystery

I'm beginning to doubt my sanity!

I've been happily using Whatsapp Desktop on my Windows PC, mainly because I hate typing on the tiny keyboard on my mobile.

However, since my recent hardware upgrade and installation of Windows 10 I cannot get the PC and mobile linked using the QR code provided by the Windows PC app. Yet I can get it working through the browser version from the Whatsapp website.

I've tried with Windows Defender as AV and Firewall, and also with the free version of Avast One.
In each case there are no messages or any indication as to what might be the problem, and I can see nothing in the various logs.

I wonder if the power of prayer might help.

Close WhatsApp Desktop and empty contents of c:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Roaming\WhatsApp\ folder

Already tried that and a few other ideas.
    So far no luck.

Try redownloading installer again. I think it was updated yesterday.
