    Macrium Relect, constant errors

This has been going on for awhile. I'm using the free version (6.2). When it goes to backup, it's always coming up with the same error message. This is the error in the log.

Backup Aborted! - Error reading Image file

The last successful backup was on the 11th of this month. Before that it was the 2nd. 2/3rds of July, it worked. Some times not.

Only reason I found out about the errors is that I happened to be up and on the computer when the backup started and failed.

    Any ideas?

    TIA

Suggest you check your backup disk for integrity. Run chkdsk, check SMART parameters (e.g. Crystal Diskinfo - free).

Do you have verification turned on when creating the image? Is that when you get the error message- or while the image is being created?

Verification is not on. I use a 128GB flash drive for my backups. According to Windows (Properties/Tools/Error checking), it shows no problems. I get the notification when the backup starts. Afterwards, it shows the notification that it failed.

Ok, is your backup file allocated the correct drive letter for the job? (But I think Macrium gives a clear message for that simple case). Is Macrium failing to find a valid base image?

The free version only supports differential imaging, which requires your base image be valid.

Backup file is allocated with the correct drive letter. This is the info from June when the backup was successful. The only settings I've changed is the time of the backups. I set the time to very early morning so that I'm not doing anything on the computer.

I suspect the flash drive, are you able to test the back up to an external HD or even your PC HD (create a smaller back up to fit if need be)
This will rule out any disk integrity issues and may point to the flash drive
Where do you plug in the flash drive, front or back?
I ask as I've seen issues when plugging in the front as these USB ports tend to be via hubs which can cause these type of issues
    Use the rear and retest

I have it plugged into a port on the top of the case (it's been plugged in there since I bought it). The 4 in the back have my keyboard, mouse and 2 external hard drives plugged in. The 2 ports on the front and the 4 in the rear are USB2. The ports on the top of the case are USB3.

One external drive I use for file backup. The other one is full of movies, music (I ripped all my music CDs to my hard drive because I hate changing CDs, I don't share them) and such. The drive I use for file backup won't work when plugged into the USB3 port (it's an OLD drive). Not sure about the other one. The backup drive is USB1, the other is USB2.

Sorry to butt in. I use Macrium Reflelct (paid version). But, have you tried backing up (image) to the hard drive? Just to see if that works OK and if it does, I would suspect some issue with the flash drive.

That did it. The image was corrupted. I deleted the image and did a new one. Verified it and all's well.

    Thanks everyone for your imput.
