Why doesn't Office 2016 Pro Plus update through the regular update route? I have to open a Office program....usually Word and manually update that way.

Do you have it set to auto update? If it's like the OS updates it may take a day or more for the updates to show.

    Hi there

as far as the Auto update (via Windows) is concerned - it CAN but there are 2 main channels for getting Office updates.

If you downloaded the Office ISO via the MSDN program and installed it that way you will get updates via standard Windows updates (assuming you have set the Windows update to allow updates for other Ms products as well as windows).

If you installed Office via the "Get Office" app or that wretched store thingy then you will get updates only via Office account -->update and you have to do it manually.

Seems totally half (or even "Quarter" ) baked system --update should be the same in both cases IMO.

    Cheers

I have office 365, I have to update manually from within an office application. They never come through Windows update even though I have allow for other Windows products enabled. Maybe if I gave enough idle time a task may happen to do it automatically but generally on login I just open something like excel and check for updates.

im not sure what the MSDN method means but I installed mine by logging in via browser and installing this way. If I remember it was Microsoft Office Home inputting codes and following on screen.

but I agree with jimbo, the installation/update method should be consisent

    Hi there

MSDN is like the old Technet system --you pay (in this case an EXPENSIVE) subscription which allows you to download for FREE various Ms software products and install and run them on your computer for Free (actually not really FREE if you take account of the charges).

The Technet system was brilliant - for a Small fee (around 120 EUR a year from Iceland - probably similar from elsewhere) - you could download almost any piece of Ms Software (including servers etc) and even the RETAIL versions could be activated over 10 times per key --and at the height of the program you got 10 keys per product (later reduced).

Of course this system led to rampant Piracy which was a shame but there we are --wrongly target products and charge for them too cheaply -- well the rest is history.

BTW for anybody reading the post --if you still have old Ms technet keys for things like Windows 7 / 8 etc you can STILL upgrade to W10 for Free !!! looks like the activation servers re still hosed up for these old programs !!!!

    Cheers

I've never seen an auto update, Winuser. How would I do that? I've always manually updated, and no, it's not the most convenient, but it's pretty easily done.

I have 365 office and the below happened on all our machines which were initially updated yesterday morning, just to be aware of in case anyone else sees this. I have reported this to MS.

    Quoting from another thread ..,
"certainly a strange installation - I checked for updates and it did its normal thing. I then jumped into my wife's user acc to verify all was working on office after the update. On re entering my own acc I went back to office and under 'about' it still said updates waiting to be installed. I clicked check for updates and it quickly installed but I noticed it had knocked me back to version .2055! So I checked again and it found updates again and reinstalled. After this I was back to the latest version and the above issue didn't repeat itself. I even restarted the PC to double check but it was fine after this saying I was up to date. So some strange anomalies that seemed to straighten themselves out!"
