After months of every other "solution" out there, of course it would be the obvious. I turned off firewall completely and at least I can install and update. But once firewall is turned on again, it's back to "Something happened on our end." So no update that I could download fixed this issue without this fix for this issue.
And I can't seem to find the rule in firewall that is exactly blocking the install/download call. Other updates with the MS Store and the individuals apps will refresh like the storefront inventories etc. But not the actual apps or their updates themselves. Because if this is the ultimate fix to this nonsense, finding out exactly what the impeding firewall rule is will save others a lot of aggravation. Turning off a firewall completely is not a secure workaround.
The store app is being updated which seems to cure it assuming you can download it
