Only sfc /scannow resulted in some unfix-able issues, all related to directory ownership - some owned by more than one process, others owned by none.
    ...
So, I restored the SSD to its original GPT config, and restored the O/S to its original Win10 Pro level.
The SFC issues are common and not really issues. Hopefully a future release will not report these things unless they are truly an issue ... Windows knows if it's ok for more than one owner (as long as it also checks who those owners are) or if it's ok not to be owned on certain files. But that's the future ...

If you want, please put the entire C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log into a compressed folder and attach it to a post. A member can review it and give you their advice.

I'm guessing that you used the Dell recovery to restore Win10/GPT ... a better option is

You lose the Dell bloat and any ancillary software that came with the box, but it is pure Windows. If you find that you want or need some of the Dell bloat, you can always download it from the Dell support site.

Thanks to both of you. I have attached a CBS.zip to this post, with two CBS.log files compressed. The files contain results of two separate test runs each, as I remember.

When I mentioned Backup and Recovery in my previous post, I meant that I backed up my entire Win 10 Pro SSD to an external drive using Macrium Reflect licensed software. Then I made numerous attempts to install Win7 using a Dell Win7 Pro OEM DVD, including DiskPart reassignment of the laptop's 512 Gb SSD file configuration to MBR vs. GPT. But they all failed, probably because of the NVMe configuration of the 512 Gb SSD. So, I restored the SSD to its original GPT config, and restored the O/S to its original Win10 Pro level using the Macrium Reflect image I stored on the external drive. I had too many applications, data and configurations to abandon my Win 10 environment unless I was successful in reverting to Win 7.

Since then, despite the forced updates, I have gotten used to Win 10 especially after removing the charms and configuring the Start menu like Win 7 using the excellent Classic Shell software.

I certainly appreciate your efforts to assist. I'll look forward to your assessment of he attached CBS.log files.

    Thanks, Airpilot

Yeah, the only thing in the CBS.log is a known issue re: opencl.dll
It's a non-issue - so you have a clean bill of health as far as SFC is concerned.

So, my XPS 13 laptop passes the SFC, the F12 hardware diag., and all but the Extended testing offered by SupportAssist? Would you agree that basically there's evidently no real problem with this laptop? Apparently I'm experiencing issues with Dell's SupportAssist bloatware, not the laptop itself?

If so, then I see no reason to call Dell Support. I'll probably keep SupportAssist as a manual test for occasional non-Extended checkups - I've disabled its scheduled testing.

Everything in your first post indicates issues with the Dell tests: Failed to Start or Abnormal Exit.
You say your laptop seems to be running fine. Your SFC results indicate no issues with your OS. And yes, Classic Shell is a winner.
I wouldn't worry about anything; although, if no one calls Dell about problems with their Support software, how will they ever know to fix it?

That's true. Maybe I should call to let them know that their SupportAssist software is reporting Extended Test results that are misleading and therefore unhelpful. They might listen and make changes. Or not...

Up to you. If it were my software, I would want the feedback.
