    Margister,

If you like, try step 7 to do a repair install using the Media Creation Tool to see if it may work instead.
When I was referring to the program I actually meant the Media Creation Tool's upgrade now. That is the method I have used, and it gave me the error above.

In that case, you may need to clean install or refresh Windows instead.

I have no option to refresh Windows within the settings, only to reset it :/
If I'm going to have to go through the pain of reinstalling everything and so on, I will definitely not go with Windows 10 again.

Hi, one way to save yourself the pain this time of manually reinstalling everything would be to use a tool like
Zinstall or Laplink pcmover (disk image assistant). (Not free).

The most convenient way is to
    a. Install one of the above
    b. make a disk image using Macrium Reflect (free) (the image will also be your backup)
    c. Clean install Win 10
    d. Install the program you chose above (say PC Mover)
    e. Mount your image
    f. Run (e.g.) Pc Mover Disk Image assistant and choose what you want to install what you want from your disk image
    g. Make coffee/watch TV/play with the kids.....
    h. Come back and see which programs have not been installed (if any)
    i. Check the programs that have been installed- expect about 95%+ success rate.
    j. Reinstall the remainder.

And for the future- with any OS- use periodically updated disk imaging to give you relatively quick and painless recovery options
