how do i know if an installed app is an universal app?!

many vendors are releasing their uwp... now i have doubts i couldn't answer...

will the new uwp coming out automatically update/remove the old app?! will i have to manually install the new uwp and remove the old app?! will i have two app/uwp installed?! how do i check, in apps list, if i have a uwp or an app?!

    thanks

Hi, there's a scheduled task which routinely updates your universal apps. That's a background task you don't have to concern yourself about.

Discriminating between universal apps and desktop programs (not obtained via the store) in Win 10's start menu is not readily possible AFIK. However, if you right click each one, and look at 'More', for desktop programs you will typically see 'Open file location' - but not for universal apps (which are all stored in one folder).

If you want to see this difference quickly and easily, install Classic Shell.
An option allows you to see all your universal apps as shortcuts in one folder.. your desktop programs are correctly represented in a traditional start menu, which Win 10's start menu dismally fails to achieve.

The UWP apps are only available via the Windows Store.

The list of apps found by going to Settings includes both types. Click on any app and if it shows a Move option (sometimes grayed out) it is a UWP. If it shows Modify it will be a desktop app.

It is possible to have both a UWP and a desktop app for the same product, e.g. Dropbox and they will often have different features.
