Can I do the in place upgrade from the w10 ISO DVD from which I installed W10? - the video only mentions using the iso file but I don't have a means of mounting an ISO.
NO. Your dvd was created 6 months ago, which means it has version 10240.
    Current version is 10586.
Use this Tech Bench link to download the current version ISO file.
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/soft...load/techbench

You can then burn it to a DVD.
Make sure you select the same Windows edition, Language and bit-version your computer is now running.

    Question :
What do you mean " but I don't have a means of mounting an ISO."
    Please elaborate. I don't understand.

Well I gave it a go and if failed saying it could not find the correct sector (or the current installation was not in the correct place - cant remember which) so I have given up on a repair and am doing a clean install using the 64 iso. More work but perhaps in the long run less issues!

Yes I did downloaded the latest version- but the report was saying something about the wrong location - cant remember exactly what - anyway I have now installed 64 bit version and all working well - this time I will only install the software I actually use - may help keep things a bit cleaner! However all your help very much appreciated and now thanks to you I do know of a way of effecting a repair should I need to do so again. Regards

..............anyway I have now installed 64 bit version and all working well .......................

Did you download the 32-bit version before ?

I did caution you to download the same Windows edition, language and bit version your computer is running in Post #11. Yes ?

Anyway, nice to know you are back in business.
    Happy computing.

If no more issue, please mark your thread as Solved so that others with a similar issue will know there is an answer in this thread.
    Thank you.

No - previously I had 32 bit so did not try updating with the wrong bit version - its just that something has obviously one wrong with the PC - I did have a load of malware issues shortly before and they may have contributed although the PC was running well before the update that caused the problem. Now actually happier with the 64 bit version - and a very clean machine :) Thanks again for you help
