    Store, Store (beta), and apps

For the past few days, I've been wrestling with Store (beta) issues.

It worked, it didn't work, it sort of worked.....
When it worked, it offered 10 updates to apps
update all did not work, so I updated them individually by hitting the down arrow
    Reader updated - others didn't
I hit the retry arrow and some more got updated
I hit the retry arrow again on the ones that remained until they updated
Mail app and Store (beta) did not
MS games were not offered and are not on the Store (beta) page
Uninstalled apps were offered - screw that! They need to fix that

Then it stopped working altogether - and surprisingly, MS games didn't work even though there was no update offered.

I ran wsreset and re-registered the apps ( a few failed to re-register bcz they were in use - Cortana!)
I also ran the app trouble shooter

Somewhere along the way, Store (green) started working again (oh yeah, I forgot to mention that MS store was broken - both of them) (beta) still just sat there or disappeared after launch

Fiddle, fiddle fiddle - today I am able to run both Store apps
I ran (beta) and offered 7 updates - everything but Store (beta) was updated by hitting the retry button when necessary. I noticed that the update incremented .2 mb each time I hit retry (17 MB to 40 MB all .2 mb at a time)
    I reported this to MS.

I went to Store (green) to see about my games ... no updates. I uninstalled both Mahjong and Solitaire, then installed them from Store (green), remember, they aren't on Store (beta)?, and everything is fine ... today.

One cool thing is that the MS games are windowed now and...... and..... and you no longer have to wade though the sign-in window just to locally play a game on your machine. I considered that extraneous step a big issue. Why continually ask the user to sign in when they never have or they always hit cancel. The likelihood of them signing-in when they launch the app is minimal and they'll just be upset every time they take a break to play a game at work

I think MS was working behind the scenes and nothing I did actually solved the issue(s) other than reinstalling the games

I'm also having Store (beta) issues and have never had it working yet, but live in hope. I haven't tried the app troubleshooter yet though.

I wanted to ask you about the MS games. Do you play the Daily Challenges? If so, do you get 30 second-long ads that advertise other MS games but are not very good graphical quality?

I recently started getting these after a new install, and I'm unconvinced that they are genuine.

Sorry, no I've never tried the daily challenges - I only ply two games - Mahjong & Solitaire. The rest is just fluff - (challenges, awards, keeping score, star club.....) which I'm not interested in using. The games provide a non-thinking distraction for me - just match a card or tile and see how well I do.

In many cases, the Windows Store will automatically notify you if there’s a problem with an app and try to fix the problem. If you continue experiencing problems with an app, or if you're unable to open the Store, try running the Apps troubleshooter. This tool can automatically identify and fix some problems with apps and the Store. It's only available in English, but will work on PCs running any language.

If running the troubleshooter doesn't help, here are some things you can try to fix the app yourself.

Beta Store works good for me. I can even update my modern apps through it.
The ONLY problem I have with 10 is I'm not getting any security updates(automatic or manual). I think 10 doesn't like mobile broadband or something.

I think you might have had a thread about this but I can't find it. Did you try setting mobile broadband as non-metered? Worth a try perhaps. Wireless Network Metered Connection - Set in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

The Store was going through changes on the MS side a few days ago or last week.

After following adamf's suggestion, try resetting WU.
Use the topmost MS Fixit (Win8.1 ... Win7) or follow the manual instructions on this page:
How do I reset Windows Update components?

But ... the issue on your machine seems to be related to Windows Update, not the MS store. I think you would get more views / suggestions if you had a thread specific to the issue.

I already did, I have tried everything and I mean everything, now I'm just waiting for the next build to see what happens. I have batch files for 8.1 that reset WU & resets the DLLs, done dism, can't do SFC of course w/10TP. Given up on trying to update. Patiently(not) waiting for next build. I'll start worrying when the final product comes out, and till then I'll give feedback, give feedback, give feedback. After all the trade off is I have other things working that others don't.
