16 bit programs on 32 bit windows 10...

    16 bit programs on 32 bit windows 10...


    hi... i installed vdm on my 32 bit windows 10
    to run 16 bit windows programs
    have all the dlls in the windows system folder
    rebooted... and the programs still won't run...
    says something is missing...

    any ideas why?

    Windows 10 cannot run older 16 bit programs. You could use XP in a virtual machine.

    interesting... cause when i went to run one
    windows update popped up and said
    i needed to install ntvdm so i did
    and it said it was ok...

    they ran ok on windows 7...

    i have windows 3.1 installed on dosbox
    maybe i'll use that...

    64 bit versions of Windows can't run 16-bit applications, but 32 bit versions should run them, as far as I knew.

    I may be wrong, however, I thought I read scuttlebutt indicating hardware also plays a role, regardless of software.

    That's my understanding also, unless something has changed? You may have to try running them in compatibility mode though?

    System or System32, and does it matter?

    i always put them in the system folder
    that's where they are...

    as soon as i copied them to the system 32 folder
    they worked... that did it... thanks...
