    Hi,

I did some study about the problem. And I know what goes wrong with those apps during their update.
    With command prompt as admin
    dir “c:\program files\windowsapps” /a
you can see what version you have of the apps
On a pc who has (for already some time) Store troubles that is
    Microsoft.WindowsStore_2015.10.13.0_neutral_split.language-xx_8wekyb3d8bbwe
    Microsoft.WindowsStore_2015.10.13.0_neutral_split.scale-100_8wekyb3d8bbwe
    Microsoft.WindowsStore_2015.25.24.0_neutral_split.language-xx_8wekyb3d8bbwe
    Microsoft.WindowsStore_2015.25.24.0_neutral_split.scale-100_8wekyb3d8bbwe
    Microsoft.WindowsStore_2015.25.24.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe
    Microsoft.WindowsStore_2015.2524.4.0_neutral_~_8wekyb3d8bbwe
    And then regedit:
In the registry branch HKCU of the user with the broken store there are 129 references to 2015.25.22.0 instead of 2015.25.24.0.
On the same pc the user with a Store that works fine: all nice references to 2015.25.24.0
(I found some other minor differences too between the Store lines in the branches of the different users.)

Conclusion: The registry is referring to files that do not exist. The installation of the apps is not okay. It does not execute all needed modifications for all users. It only does the needed registry modifications for some users.
I verified the conclusion on other computers. I have plenty of computers to check it, and they all have wrong registry references for the user with the broken apps.

Okay … now we know what’s wrong. But how can it be solved????

    Somebody an idea?

Hi, good analysis.. but 2015? Your earlier post gives a 2016 date.

Have you tried wsreset.exe? - resets the Store without changing account settings or deleting installed apps.
Store Cache - Clear and Reset in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums
Don't think that will have any effect on your store registry entries though....probably..

Where exactly are you looking in the registry? - There are many refs in HKCU e.g.

(there are many more, but the date seems consistent)

That's the default scheduled task to update store apps.. I can only presume it updates the store too.. I don't know.
** note the trigger is both time and at logon, so you might gain some control by changing that by way of mitigation.
"One fine day a user starts the pc and calculator/photo or store app does not work any longer."
I.e. get things working, disable the 'at log on' check so the problem doesn't disrupt a user session.

I use an admin account.. presumably your users don't (FWIW). On this PC I'm using Avast, free.

    Hi,

We have multiple computers that I have to take care of. The one I used for the analyses lost its Store quite soon. Windows was installed on it in the beginning of January. Must have lost its Store shortly after.

Wsreset … did not try it. Besides it is not only a Store problem. Computers lost Store app, Calculator. This morning discovered two pc’s each with a lost app Photos.

I’ve been looking the whole HKCU branch through. 129 references to the old number. I exported as a reg-file. Changed extension to txt and Word did the counting.

Store is updating just like all other apps. So it also fits in that task.

All our users are admin. So that can’t cause the problem.

I’ll try wsreset when the computers are free this evening. And I’ll have a closer look at the scheduled task too. I'll post the results.

    Thank you for your post.

wsreset is not about store itself, rather the cache for apps being updated by the store
"If you are having issues with installing or updating Store apps in Windows 10, it may be caused by an issue with the Store cache."

I also would suggest that, since all (or many) of your PCs are manifesting the same issue, that if what you have installed on them is the same in each case, then you review what's there.

Then try one once in a working state from a clean boot, and see if it shows the problem you are reporting.

    Damage Limitation (maybe):
One way to limit the damage would be to install a program like Rollback RX, take a snapshot of the PC in a good state, then revert (quickly) to the snapshot. However, that would be a least preferred way as I've come to dislike such programs.

Another would be to create a disk image of a good state (which you can upate) and restore that when the problem occurs.

    Hi,

From a user with a corrupt Store wsreset stopped with the error message "ms-windows-store:PurgeCaches can't find element"
From a user with a functional Store wsreset worked fine. But it did not solve the problem.

Concerning the task manager. I'll try the checkbox "highest privileges". Never know if that helps.

I have Macrium images. But then users complain they have lost their settings and so. And the frustrating part is, the problems always return.

Software installed on all the pc's
    VMWare Player 12
    SumatraPDF 3.1.1
    Nvidia driver

I wonder if Scottyboy99 has some of this installed too. It might be an interaction between software. One never knows.

    Thanks for your idea’s

Hi, are you syncing these across your network in any fashion?
Do you have peer to peer updates enabled for Windows updates? (I'm wondering if this is corrupting your updates somehow)
Windows 10 apps or Store not working for some users-snap-2016-02-19-18.24.01.jpg

I suggest you take one PC, take it off the LAN, do an in-place upgrade repair install (see tutorial section) or whatever you need to do to get it running normally,, and run it in isolation from the others, with no user accessing it and see if it experiences corruption.

That's a minimal set of programs - I have 300 + installed, no problems. VMWare player is one I don't have, I have VirtualBox.

I think you're looking for either
    a. sthg transmitted from PC to PC
    or
    b. sthg the users are doing.

Do you know why the dates you showed were 2015? That's old...

    Hi,

I took the previous samples from a pc that was installed at the beginning of January. Store must have been corrupted shortly after.
Besides I have been returning with system restore and images. And now Store updates are disabled to prevent worse. I did that last Monday.

But the problem happens really so frequent …

Monday I had some accidents with Photos.
    checked the Folders
    Microsoft.Windows.Photos_15.1001.16470.0_neutral_split.language-xx_8wekyb3d8bbwe
    Microsoft.Windows.Photos_15.1001.16470.0_neutral_split.scale-100_8wekyb3d8bbwe
    Microsoft.Windows.Photos_16.201.11370.0_neutral_split.language-xx_8wekyb3d8bbwe
    Microsoft.Windows.Photos_16.201.11370.0_neutral_split.scale-100_8wekyb3d8bbwe
    Microsoft.Windows.Photos_16.201.11370.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe
    Microsoft.Windows.Photos_2016.201.12130.0_neutral_~_8wekyb3d8bbwe
    checked the registry
    Microsoft.Windows.Photos_16.122.14020.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe
    => Wrong number in registry
I have the problem on my pc at home too. So I don’t think the LAN can be the cause.

    Thank you for the post!

Ok, so the one common element... is you...

That said, weird.. there must be sthg else common... I've not seen this reported elsewhere (yet)....
Have you transferred any files, data, anything between your home PC and the others?
    Do you do so regularly?

Or are all the PCs similar in some way- hardware/drivers/configuration? I'm struggling to think of why you should have the difficulty you are (other than that Win 10 is immature).

    Hi guys,

I hope someone can help me deal with my problem in Win 10, which is that the context menu has disappeared from my gmail This means that I can not save any message which I need to keep, and so can not delete it. I believe that my Inbox will soon be visible from space!

The security tab also disappeared from Properties which was a bind, but I got it back. Please don't expect me to remember how.

One good thing about Win 10 is that I do not have to go into Properties as often as I had to with previous versions in order to get access to files. I still find the whole business of getting round the permissions lunacy completely ridiculous, and I look forward to a day when the idiots at MS who decided to impose the permissions nonsense on me, are seen hanging from their testicles in front of the White House.

Hi, welcome to tenforums. Unfortunately your new post has been attached to this thread, to which it isn't related. Could you delete it and repost it as a new thread with an appropriate title? That way people will see it and be able to help you. Thanks.
