Well that is good news :) Let's hope relearning works for @supashaka also.

I was thinking the accent may be the problem. I set everything (speech, locale etc) to US to get Cortana to work but I don't sound particularly American. Even if I try saying "Hey Cortana" in what I imagine is a really strong Robert De Niro accent it doesn't work if set "To anyone" not "To me". Could be my accent is still rubbish though.

When I was trying to speak the six phrases it kept giving up. The first one worked, then the second would say "I'm not getting this" or some such. Third would work after 2 goes, Forth it couldn't understand me again and so on.

I had to keep clicking on the Microphone button to get it going again as during this process it seems to turn it off if it can't understand you. I did make it the end eventually though. You could try that if it doesn't say "Listening..." while you are trying to speak the phrase it wants. I also picked up my laptop and talked loudly right into the microphone hole but I'm not sure if that was required as it seems it can hear me fine at a normal distance and voice now.
That is why I use USB headphone and mike
Cortana understood my English Accent ok
Once all 6 voice overs done it came up on mine all good to go.
Does she when you say Hey Cortana say your username as well as showing it up on screen.
On mine she said my username back
When I asked to get me Face Book she came back
    Getting you Face Book
Then goes straight into Face Book
    Love it

Er, no, none of that. If I say "Hey Cortana" the box appears saying "listening". Doesn't say my name at all. I tried to find out with "Hey Cortana, who am I?". The answer is "You are Chief" apparently.

I then tried "hey Cortana, get me facebook" as you suggested (it seemed to understand "give me facebook") and the response was "I'll need quite a lot of upgrades before I can give you that". Probably I joke I don't get (or give).

I think I'll turn if off again... In a bit...

Unfortunately setting cortana to recognise me as opposed to everyone isn't a solution for me, I did it successfully (all the phrases were recognised straight away) when I 1st set up (although 'hey cortana' was already working when she was set to recognise everybody) and it was about 2 days later when the phrase stopped working.

But I'm glad others got it working, hopefully it will keep working unlike for me.

Now I'm wondering if the voice activation phrase seems to work for anyone at all! People seem to be confusing it with me asking how to get Cortana to work at all
It does, they were but now not. Try it: turn it all off, turn it on, tell Cortana to learn your voice again, set to "Just me" and see.

May I ask why not? I've tried but I can't think of any reason...

You say it doesn't work for you but you don't want to narrow it down so it works for you specifically. You'd rather it didn't work for you when defined specifically rather than did work when defined generally?

Are you saying it works for everyone else except you? In that case you have to teach it.

Even set on "Just me" Cortana recognizes "Yes Cortana" (not "hey") when shouted (from across the room) by my wife.

If not I don't know. For me certainly it used to work without doing that but sometime between spring last year (when I last tried it) and today (when I tried it because of your post here) it stopped. I've seen threads about having to toggle the thing off and on after sleep.
Well might find out tomorrow if ok but then again I nearly always shut down
All I did was Cortana then Settings then clicked learn your voice again
    That was it
    Update
If I use the mike on the laptop by the camera Cortana takes no notice.
    Have just tried it
But USB I only have to whisper and she is active straight away

Getting kind of confusing! I'm not exactly sure what you're asking, I've tried toggling many different cortana settings off and on again, including what you suggested. It didn't make a difference unfortunately.

In fact I have a new problem after turning cortana back to recognizing 'everyone' she now freezes after I click on her mic icon and I have to start task manager to fix her! On top of that the 'hey cortana' option slider has completely vanished from her settings!

This is getting worse and worse, now the whole task bar at the bottom of windows has stopped functioning, that includes the windows start button and chrome button, I had to manually go into program folder to launch the browser!

All the programs I pinned to the start/task bar at the bottom have vanished and the start bar/cortana search/task view/notifications aren't responding. Any idea what's going wrong here?? Upgrading to W10 has been a mistake for me...
