Reluctant HP Untility
Hello,
Just migrated from Win 7 to Win 10. Several small problems, some just annoying, others more consistent, which get slowly sorted out.
Most of my programs, even very old ones, survived - some after studious compatibility tweaking. However, there is one that has proven to be extremely difficult. It's a utility accompanying Hewlett Packard printers called "Solution Centre". With it, you can access various properties of the printer (like copying, faxing and quite a decent scanning feature, including OCR and whatnot).
However, on the migration to Win 10, that utility lost all of its possibilities (except checking the ink levels of the printer). HP admitted so much on their site and pretended one should wait for a specific Win 10 update, then uninstall and reinstall the utility. Asking for help at HP resulted in the same suggestion, with links to the latest install for the utility.
So far so good - or rather, so far so bad. Because apparently that famous Win update never was released, while uninstalling then reinstalling the utility had no effect at all, except losing even more features (and that after its prehistoric installation procedure). After several complaints at HP, they now hide behind the fact that the warranty of the printer has elapsed - and this while that has of course nothing to do with the printer, but with an incapacity of HP to adapt their programs to Win 10, something which they continue to admit readily.
So, if anyone was confronted with the same or a similar HP problem, please let me know. I can manage things with the Windows Fax and Scan utility, but still: the scanning capabilities of that "Solution" app were more extensive, to name but one thing.
Looking forward to a reply...
