OneDrive re-downloads everything after upgrade to 9926

If anyone has upgraded to 9879 to 9926 did your OneDrive work?

I had to download everything again as "A file with the same name exists, if they are the same please delete the version on your computer" error was shown. So I did.

Is there any way to force (or ask) OneDrive to re-synch and check dates rather than download everything again?

From looking at it I don't think there is

I turned off onedrive sync because of this, it would take me days to redownload everything

Not sure if you can fool the sync by moving the folders somewhere else, then when it starts downloading it all copy the files back

I have 50GB on OnDrive and it would take weeks to download (or at least a week) it all as my connection isn't that fast. Copying things hasn't worked with SkyDrive for me in the past - it seems to look at creation date. DropBox seems to identify things are the same and not try uploading/downloading.

I've been upgrading since October and it (the upgrade process I mean) doesn't work as well as I'd like. I want to do once RTM arrives anyway. Perhaps.

I'll try copying things back and see but I'm sure the date will be newer and it will not work. (I have to restore back first as I broke my current installation)...

Be interested in how this works out

Would like to use Onedrive again (in 10) but the selective sync/downloading is putting me off

    Hi there

Have I lost something here --isn't the whole point of OneDrive is that it's a CLOUD service --why on earth should you (the owner of the account) have to download ANYTHING -EVER unless you specifically want something. Dropbox works like that so what's OneDrive doing that requires downloading anything.

My brain might have become a bit addled today - but what's the point of a Cloud service if it downloads everything without a prompt.

    Cheers

Onedrive in Win 10 has gone back to the selective sync method used in Win 7

To be able to see your files in explorer you have to make the folders available offline which downloads all the content

In win 8/8.1 it showed all your onedrive files in explorer with a flag saying if it was online only or available offline, according to MS many found this confusing so they reverted back to the older system where you have to download/sync content otherwise you don't see it

Does dropbox work differently?, can I see al my dropbox files in explorer without having to download/sync them?

I never sync anything - stopped the first time I 'lost' music and video files way back when

Sync can become brain dead and either over react with a full copy or wipe because it's confused.

Other members might have better success with sync.
I just copy or backup manually.

    Hi there

You can see the contents of the directories - but I suppose to open a document it has to be pulled into some sort of temporary storage but even then it should only download and re-upload the files you are actually working on --it shouldn't have to do the whole crapshoot. Otherwise I go back to my original point - what's the purpose of a CLOUD server if it kkeeps downloading everything without a prompt. You might just as well set up a NAS server at home.

Fully agree, this was a change MS did in 10

In 8.1 I can see all my onedrive files in explorer
want a photo to work on, double click and it downloads/syncs with the cloud
want a document, same, double click and it downloads/syncs with the cloud
don't want it local/syncing, right click a folder/document and say make online only, local copy is gone and its just in the cloud, but still visible in explorer to download again if needed

    in win 10
want a photo, have to select the folder that the photo is in (using onedrive app) and download/sync the whole folder
same with documents, have to select folder (again in onedrive app) with document in and download/sync the whole folder
want to make it online only, remove folder from syncing, but can no longer see contents in explorer

Not a fan of the new way, and have turned off syncing in onedrive

    Hi there

I suppose if you want to just look at the directory / folder contents try something like ws_ftp or cute_ftp -- but it rather defeats the whole object if you have to use an FTP explorer program when the cloud server should work properly.

Can't understand either why it works the way it does now -- more load on Ms's servers too I'd imagine. This has to be a temporary error which will get fixed.

    Cheers
