Window 10 Photos App will not uninstall

When I try to uninstall Windows 10 "Photos" App (which takes over to open all photos and makes difficult opening photos with another app) it will not uninstall.

    (The "Uninstall" button is disabled.)

    Any ideas out there?

    1. Which program do you want to open images instead of Photo app ?
You can change the default to the program you want to use. If you don't know how to, post back with the name of the program you want to use as default.

    2. If you want to uninstall Photo, use this method....................

Right click at Start button > click Command Prompt (Admin) > type powershell > Enter.
At the flashing prompt, copy and paste this...............................
    Get-AppxPackage *photos* | Remove-AppxPackage

    > Enter.

Hello davidhk; and thanks for replying.

My preferred alternative being irrelevant to the question, I won't address that.

That said, your solution worked. Thank you. (Which leads to one wondering why Microsoft make something so hard, when it should be only simple; but that's for another day. It also remains to wonder why the Uninstall button was disabled in the first place--but I suppose that's another bug for Microsoft to fix.

To be honest I find it amazing that, as you say, there is indeed a way to assign an alternative program. I searched and searched and searched inside Photo App for a way to do this, but it is a complete mystery to me where that option is. That said, I'm not interested now as I have no intention of ever using Photo App again.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Issue resolved.

The method of setting one program as default is not confined to Photo.
Same method can be use for other programs, such as default browser, default program to open image files, default program to play audios, etc etc etc.

Since you consider the problem resolved, please mark the thread as Solved.
    Thank you.
