Latest Daily update (Thunderbird replacement) loses all email settings

Daily is the name given to the new replacement for Mozilla Thunderbird. It often has daily updates, and the one today (08 Jan 2016) causes it to lose all email settings. As a result, when it start is shows no existing email, no email account, and looks like you are starting with a fresh install of a new email client.

To get around this I downloaded and installed the latest version of Thunderbird (38.5.1) and this did show all my email OK. So something bad happened to Daily - hopefully whoever it is who controls that software will fix it tomorrow.

Thanks, what's the latest version of Thunderbird anyways since the one I download a few weeks ago was Thunderbird Setup 43.0b1.exe and it no longer worked with GMail which was updated over a Thunderbird I got a year ago.... Wonder is there anything else that will let me read a large gmail mailbox by sorting by sender and by date and when I mean large, I mean there is 300,000 emails and also I noticed with all the desktop clients, when I delete in the client, it doesn't actually delete the mail on the actual gmail.

I actually see what happened, Google basically blocks it from using and logging in to imap on gmail's servers:

    Sign-in attempt prevented
Someone just tried to sign in to your Google Account v*****@gmail.com from an app that doesn't meet modern security standards.

We strongly recommend that you use a secure app, like Gmail, to access your account. All apps made by Google meet these security standards. Using a less secure app, on the other hand, could leave your account vulnerable. Learn more.

Google stopped this sign-in attempt, but you should review your recently used devices:
