I thank you kevlar42 for this vital knowledge you've shared! I've had similar marathon experiences with software vendors until escalated to their sufficiently knowledgeable staff.

I too regret I just broke my Windows Store with the PowerShell command and was already 2 hours into investigating it.

Because of your sharing I know I'm just waiting with baited breath for Microsoft to provide a solution to this pernicious problem. Around forums it looks like the problem as existed since the 1511 upgrade (threshold 2) which is scary because 60 days have passed since!
    Hi Rambo,

Don't have to Worry, You need not refresh or reinstall Windows 10 to resolve the issues with the Windows Apps. Just replace the missing / deleted files into the Windows App folder and your Windows Apps would be up and running.

I can help guide you to fix the Windows Store App and any other Windows Apps that is broken, without having to ever re-install Windows for these issues. It will usually take no more than 5 minutes to fix the Windows Store App. Download the missing Windows store app files from here and then just copy and paste it into the C:\Program Files\WindowsApps Folder. You need to take ownership of the Windows App Folder to let Windows allow you to paste it.

Your exhaustive efforts are immensely appreciated. Following your instructions I can confirm, function of my alarms app has been restored. I don't have time to test the others at the moment. Keep up the brilliant work!
