Changing Default App To Play DVD's

I recently stumbled on some old videos on DVD RW discs. Unfortunately VLC can't play them. I just get the sound with a white video stream (codec problem). However if I open the folder, then Media player classic can play the VOB files just fine.

If I double click the DVD icon in Windows explorer, I get the error, "This file does not have an app associated with it ..." error. I can't see any provision in "Auto Play" for DVD's on Win 10.

If I right click the DVD icon, the context menu has an option "Play with VLC" - The problem is VLC can't play this kind of DVD.

So I need to configure windows to play a DVD with "Media Player Classic" when I double click on it.

    OR

Make a new right click context menu with the option to play the DVD with "Media Player Classic"

Is there a way I can do one or the other or both?

    Kind regards

    Chris

I've always had trouble with DVD-RW and CD-RW discs, stay with DVD-R, DVD+R, both at 4.7GB and DVD+R/DL [Dual Layer] and CD-R discs. It seems if the RW discs don't close properly they don't play well on other drives. And with USB Thumb drives it's easier to clean and re-use.

Thank you very much Dalchina. I was looking in the standard Win 10 menu autoplay settings, instead of the Control panel autoplay settings. In Control panel all the DVD settings are there!

Now when I insert a DVD it will start to play automatically with the desired player.

    Thank you for the solution.

    Kind regards

Thank you Berton for your thoughts. Yes it's true that DVD RW's are notorious for losing data. +R and -R are much more reliable. I very seldom use DVD's now. These are old ones from many years ago. Surprisingly, the video is still intact.

    Kind regards
