Well technically Office 2007/2010 allow you to install on up to 3 computers under the license.

Mainstream support has ended for XP, Vista, 7. Same as Office 2007, 2010 & Office Starter. Office 2007 only is supported for Extended updates until 2017. Until 2020 the others receive updates under the Extended portion of their Life Cycle. Microsoft Support Ending Dates

You first mentioned that it was EOL, now you're saying it's supported but only with security updates. So it's not EOL. I'm not sure what you mean by businesses not "moving up" to Office 2010. 2007 and 2010 are functionality-wise the same. I just use 2007 since it's what I've been using since 2008.

Extended Support means that once the software is installed, or activated and say you have to replace the hard drive and want to load it again on the new hard drive. The Activation key is now not only tied to your Microsoft Live account. It is also tied to the bios on the Motherboard, so that you cannot just take it and activate it on another machine, since it is no longer considered a supported software.

All that Microsoft is doing, is allowing Security updates for any software that is under the Extended period. No updates to the base software whatsoever.

End of Life means it's no longer supported with feature updates AND security updates. For example, Office 2003 is considered EOL since it no longer receive either types of updates.

However, Office 2010 and 2007 still receive security updates, so they're not considered to be an EOL product.

I bought Office 2007 Home and Student a few years ago. On the back of the box, it says that it's a license for up to THREE computers. So, I can have it installed on up to 3 computers, which I do.

There's no such thing as "it won't activate anymore because it's old". Sorry but that's the most incorrect thing I've ever seen on this forum. Like I said before, about a month ago I installed Office 2007 from DVD on Windows 10 and it activated with no problems. Then, Windows Updates began downloading SP3 and the most recent security updates for it.

Yes I know that Mainstream support for Office 2007 and 2010 is over. I never said it wasn't over. Office 2007 and 2010 are only receiving security updates at this point. But that doesn't mean that you can never activate it again if you were to buy a DVD license. That makes no sense. Office licenses for 2007 and 2010 are not tied to a Microsoft Account, you're thinking of Office 365 (or 2013/2016).

Then you need to read more on this forum! Things like "Your Windows 7 Product Key gets blocked when you update to Windows 10 and you can no longer use it to install Windows 7" or "Your Windows 7 Product Key gets blocked after 30 days after upgrading."
