Can't install Office 2007 due to conflict with Groove

I tried to install my Office 2007 on Windows 10. But I get a message saying "Setup has detected an earlier version of Groove on your system ... uninstall your current version of Groove".

Groove is not in the Programs section of Control Panel and a right click on Groove does not have an uninstall option. So I got online and found out how to uninstall Groove at How to Uninstall Windows 10s Built-in Apps (and How to Reinstall Them). I typed the command suggested which is "Get-AppxPackage *zunemusic* | Remove-AppxPackage". That said Groove was removed and now I don't see it in the Start menu anymore. Then I rebooted to be sure. But I still get the error.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

If it is a Windows component, it should be in the installed updates section. Go to Control Panel, Programs and Features and click View installed Updates on the left. It might be there. Once you find it and uninstall it, restart your computer and now you should be able to install Office 2007. In worst case, you can always select Custom installation and remove the Groove, install all others.

Take a look at LibreOffice, a free office suite that works in Windows and is comparable with the MS Office file format. It may meet your needs. I have replaced my copy of MS Office 2007 with LibreOffice.

Thanks, I went there as suggested. But I don't see anything saying Groove. I see lots of Office 2010 KB's and I don't even have Office on the computer yet.

Since you don't have Office yet, I would create a restore point, so I can return to that if necessary, and then I would remove anything Office related. Maybe one of those is for Groove. What about doing a custom Office 2007 installation excluding the Groove component?

I can't do a custom Office 2007 install because when I run the setup it immediately gives me the error ... so I can't even get to the point of selecting the type of install.

Do you use Groove? If not, do a custom install of Office 2007 and don't install Groove.

Oops! I missed where you stated you couldn't do a custom install. It's weird that you can't though.

I found that Office Professional Plus 2010 is on the system. That was probably left over from the Windows 7 before the upgrade or maybe it was a part of the Windows 10 upgrade. Now the install works. Note that I had already removed Groove via cmd "Get-AppxPackage *zunemusic* | Remove-AppxPackage".

Thanks to everyone for your input.
