Services Apache & MySQL won't run

My Windows 7 Pro machine correctly ran Apache and MySQL servers until I accepted the free "upgrade" to Windows 10 Pro. Now the services won't stay running.

I had previously installed the IndigoAMPP 9.04 distribution from IndigoStar software, including Apache 2.2.11 and MySQL 5.1.30 which ran perfectly until yesterday.

Now neither of those services will start, whether launched from the IndigoAMPP monitor 1.0 or from Services tab of Windows Task Manager.

I found the following errors in the System Event Log:

    The Apache service named
    reported the following error: >>>
(OS 10013)An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions. : make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80
    The Apache service named

    reported the following error: >>>
no listening sockets available, shutting down
    Now what?

    Solution!

After much trial-and-error, I found and applied this fix::

    1. Start/Run SERVICES.MSC
    2. Locate service "World Wide Web Publishing Service" and click its gearwheel
    3. On the Properties dialog, Change "Startup Type" to "Disabled", click "Stop" and "OK"

    Summary

Windows 10 comes bundled with its own web server called “World Wide Web Publishing Service” (WWWPS). When it is running, it takes over Port 80, so that port is not available to Apache. The solution is to stop and disable WWWPS. I did this in 2015 when I first installed Windows 10, and then had to do it again on 2019-08-15 when update KB4512508 “helpfully” turned WWWPS back on, again disabling Apache.
