Yes you can. Click Start - Settings - Apps - Default Apps. Scroll to the bottom and select ``Chose Default Apps By File Type`` Scroll to ``.txt`` and click Notepad and change it to Notepad++.

Yes, as posted by @Lance1 above.

    Information:

I don't know if you know, but in NotePad++, if you add the Compare PlugIn, you can easily see the differences between two [ or more ] .txt files, as well as .bat, .cmd, and .ps1 files etc. Very useful if you are, or like, scripting.

    I hope this helps.

    @ Paul Black
I know this plugin, even if there is so much plugins,I have some and use Plugin Manager to add or remove
I am not expert , but I think default notepad is too basic and ++ has xml themes to fit your likes

    @ Lance
I have done this of course, but I wanted to know if there is a way to click on notepad and notepad ++ will pop up instead of
    default notepad, a full integration

    If I understand you correctly . . .

[1] You can either open the properties of the Notepad shortcut and change the Target: and Start in: paths to the Notepad++ paths.

    [2] Remove [ Delete ] the Notepad shortcut and create a Notepad++ shortcut [ easiest option ].

    I hope this helps.

Uninstall Notepad (and Wordpad) and the default app should take over.

But do be aware the next Version Upgrade may put them back in, tends to do that with customizations.

    Hi pepito451,

Why bother fiddling with Notepad shortcuts when you can just create a new shortcut for Notepad++ instead. Then you can either delete the Notepad shortcut or save it, your choice.

I use Black Notepad instead of Notepad and have created a taskbar shortcut for it.

To create a taskbar shortcut, follow this tutorial.

If you prefer a Desktop shortcut, search the start menu for the program, right-click, select send to/ Desktop.

My taskbar shortcut for Black Notepad has survived a recent MS surprise upgrade from 1809 to 2004.

Every time I try to remove features the size of my Windows 10 Footprint grows instead of being reduced. It could be because you may be only hiding it/ I now use Notepad++. It is Open Source and works great.
