x86 uses less ram both in PE and in Host OS
So if you trying to install windows 10 x64 with only 2GB Ram - for get about it..

Sorry for late reply - but my dad has transitioned into hospice and my time has been limited..

Thank you for replying. The story is rather amazing as far as forgetting it. The ASUS TP200SA comes with 32 GB of SSD memory of lower quality (eMMC), as the c:\ and has 2GB of RAM In Europe it sold with 4 GB of RAM. As an incentive in the micro SD card reader drive a free 32 GB of memory.

An yes it comes with windows 10 pre-installed and customised by ASUS and it did not upgrade properly. My pc friend and I agreed that it was suitable for the widow and she was just rapt in appearance of the unit. Now I don't feel very good about having given her the go to buy it. It is close to a write off or perhaps at best a novelty. Well I do make mistakes and this was one of them.

To make the best of the situation we have tried to strip out as much as possible so at least update and upgrade will run as far as we understand. The system is quite nice for the widow who just want simple skype, email the odd download. Also Word and Excel which we have added, though at the moment I am keeping those off the new build I have based on just Windows 10 and limited ASUS customisation. Device manager is clear of warnings. Probably other niceties are missing but it is running.

We will not be using the Windows backup system either I considered that too complicated for the widow to use. Rightly or wrongly. Macrium Free will do as I am more familiar with that but still learning. I created a Macrium Repair/Recovery Medium on a USB stick. The idea is to have the backup un that stick as well.

You plug the stick in boot and install the backup (think it can be automated to carry out the install without having to take any action, crossing my fingers)

The problem is that the Macrium WinPE that is generated for the repair drive looses the keyboard and touchpad, you can imagined this is a bit of an obstacle. Fortunately a wired mouse can be plugged into one of the two the USB ports so it works. What I would like to do is solve that keyboard/touchpad problem.

Since the keyboard/touchpad works on the host system I figured that your WinPE was perfect, it has Macrium built in and facility run more than just win Explorer and Macrium. My thinking if I can get the use of the Device Manager in WinPE I can update the keyboard/touchpad drivers and thus identify what drivers needed and install them permanently in WinPESE.

When the message about not enough RAM arrived, I think I was prepared a bit for that becuse of the size of the file, about 1 GB. As I am not very familiar with building WinPE I am struggling to figure out how to strip down some of the content in your file but maintain the WinPE part. Being of advanced years my head is spinning trying to keep it all in pesrpective in my mind. I seem to very good at picking up a lot of interesting sidetracks.

We did consider right at the beginning it was unfathomly why the systems specs did not come with a 32 bit version of Win10, we even looked at it bu shied away as we could not find any Asus support for this. Perhaps this ought to be revisited as the 64 bit install seems to do well . Again in Europe they are better off at least they get 4 GB of RAM.

You don't happen to have any of the smaller initial versions available still? Though it is proably much quicker to come to grips with pruning applications in the existing ISO I have.

I am sorry to hear about your father, I was wondering after I saw some notes earlier in the thread.

Perhaps you should Email Macrium about the Mouse and touchpad issue as those drivers should be universal and provided by Microsoft , I would of thought , I am not sure if they are even a choice in Macrium like the Storage Drivers are....

Ooops, very good suggestion, I should have emntioned that I have done a lot of searching including on Macrium Forum and it is a well know problem but not a lot of solutions. Often people don't bother they are knowledable enough to accept you just need to plug in a mouse and forget the problem. It is an option.

It is a known problem and may happen during a windows upgrade, I think it was mostly when you go from 7, 8 to 10 admit I am loosing track. In my case it seems it must be the WinPE (Macrium) not getting the correct driver information. I was betting my chances would be best with WinPESE. I probaly should have picked the x86 version, will try that tomorrow.

When you create a macrium rescue drive you have ability to add drivers but never tested it on my tablet. I always plug in a usb mouse/keyboard as you say.

Readme says to run it from a Root Folder C:\Image_Health -
Can I instead put it into C:\APPS\Image_Health -
I keep a lot of portable/ maintenance special apps in there.
That way this also stays in my little Toolbox.

PS: Damn.. sorry to hear that.

    xbliss,
yes you can.. But shorter path to mounted wim the better....

    Handy,
export drivers from Host OS (image health option 12)
Then add those drivers to Macrium via macrium driver interface
Or use dism to add those driver to WinPESE as an off-line image

As far as lightening WinPESE - use Modify WinPESE and remove the "Program" folder from within the "Program File" Folder
That would reduce the memory requirements of preloadeing the program files into memory...

Also with 2GB of Ram, I would Highly suggest using x86 OS over the x64 OS...........

Just kinda feel to need to talk..
As many of you many know, I came down to Florida at the end of March to be with my Dad as he was to go in for post op surgery.
Well, the results of post-op was stage 4 cancer of the bladder, they removed what they could and suggested chemo/radi treatment.. He had another test to see how far the cancer had spread and it had spread into his liver, so radi treatment was out..
We decide to try chemo, although risky due to his health, but the first treatment landed him in the hospitial for 12 days...
So chemo was no longer an option either, as it darn near killed him... When he was diagnosed the cancer doctor gave him 2-4 months and I told my Dad I would go though it with him til the end... Well hear it is 3.5 months later and Sunday I had to have him admitted into Hospice, His liver has shut down, he is in a lot of pain and has but a few days before he passes... After seeing my Dad in this condition and after all this time of being here and caring for him, I made the choice to fully sedate him until he finally passes.. So it is just a matter of time now before he passes, We have accepted the fact, but now I feel that he will pass peacefully and without pain...

I went through almost the same exact thing with cancer and Hospice in Dec. 2014 with my Mom..

Sorry to hear that, and that you have had to go through it a second time. I wish I'd connected with you sooner as due to my yoga practices I've been leveraging holistic herbal eastern medicine i.e. ayurveda for several years. I hope neither you or anyone in your family have to undergo this again. Feel free to PM/ take offline if you'd like to talk more.

    Take care.

I have spent so much time on this, I may as well download win10 32bit and see how bad it will be, I am also rather qurios. If that does not look good I will go back on testing the other suggestions you gave.

May peace especially be with you in the coming days. We my wife and I have just seen a nice old gentleman, our neighbour, go through similar situation. Except the docors did not get a proper diagnosis before it was too late so when they finally discovered he had liver cancer they really could not do anything, they had no answer and sent him home to die (which he preferred by the way). Compared with surgery and chemo it was a far better outcome as far as quality of life. He lasted just 4 weeks.

I did see the option to add drivers in Macrium and toyed with the idea, at the time I had trouble identifying the drivers as they looked a bit generic after having upgraded to November 2015 win 10 version. I will keep it in mind.
