    CD-Rom Dictionary not working

    Hello,
I used to run this program from my windows XP and through windows 8.1.
It is an English-Italian dictionary from Zanichelli called Ragazzini version 2003.

Before windows 10, In order to NOT have the original cd always in my drive I did an image with daemon tools, and run it from a virtual drive.
Now with windows 10 i cannot run it from the ORIGINAL cdrom, and i cannot create a virtual SCSI drive with daemon tools.

    Anybody knows any solution?

    Thanks

Hi, first, daemon tools (v10) is specified to run under Win 10
    https://www.daemon-tools.cc/products/dtLite
Do you have this version, and what happens when you try to create an image?

    Poweriso (e.g.) works..

As to running your program, have you tried to run it in compatibility mode?

    Also please confirm:
    a. you can use other CDs/DVDs in the drive
    b. you can view the files on the CD

Hello dalchina, thanks for your answer.

SOme updates, i tried to run the program from my cdrom as administrator and now it works.

Still I cannot install sptd.sys with daemon tools in order to make it run from the image.
Image is created *.iso, and worked before with Win 8.1
The problem now is that daemon tools cannot install a virtual device SCSI to run my image
    any advice?

    Thanks

PS: i don't understand the link you posted, ;-)

Hi, I corrected the link yesterday- sorry about that- see original post.
If daemon tools isn't working for you, try an alternative.. Gizmo Drive
    Download Gizmo Drive - MajorGeeks
Noted it is only specified to Win 7, but it seems to work for me - so far!

You could also try installing Daemon Tools in compatibility mode..

Daemon Tools installs on mine ok.. what is the exact error message you get?

Turning to running your dictionary which doesn't now run in Win 10, have you tried running it in compatibility mode? Does it have any particular dependencies, such as Visual Basic, dot net, java...?

Hello Dalchina, and thanks for your help, here some updates:

Running the dictionary from the original CDrom now works: did the first time with as admin, now works even without admin.

I installed the newest version of Daemon Tools 6.1.0.xxx, compatible with Win10 that comes with SPTD 2.2.
Now DT and SPTD install fine.

But still when I mount that image on the virtual SCSI drive, the dictionary doesn't run.

NOTE that it worked with XP and 8.1 ONLY activating securom emulation.
Now this seems to be activated by default with Daemon Tools 6.1.0.xxxx, but no luck yet.

here is the link to a DropBox Folder with 3 different images of my dictionary:
    1. Ragazzini2003.ISO is the image I have used since 10 years with winXP and win8.1, always worked with Daemon Tools and securom emulation.
    2. RAG2003.mdx, just created with DaemonTools 6.1.0.0484, OLDsecurom Profile
    3. RAG2003(2).mdx, , just created with DaemonTools 6.1.0.0484, NEWsecurom Profile (left default additional parameters)

    Here is the link:

PS: I’m running windows 10, my suspect is that there is something wrong with Securom emulation and Win10

If you would have time to give it a try...

    Thanks a lot

Hi, tried running on virtual disk from PowerISO, didn't run. Also tried compatibility mode XP SP2. Nada.

Probably worth running thru threads like this on Daemon Tools Forum:
    Windows 8.1 - SecuROM issue

No, won't run from 2 or 3 virtual disks I've tried. did note an error if I ran it directly- sthg like FT_Thunk missing from kernel....

Hi, topic best raised in that forum as they know their system.

Seems the SPDT driver is simply not compatible (yet).
[maybe STICKY?]Duplex Secure SPTD Driver incompatibile with Windows 10 fast boot
Certainly it failed to install on mine.

Begs the question why mounting it via a couple of other programs didn't work,

    Good luck!
