Using PDF24 Reader as My Default PDF Reader

    H22H2 (OS Build 19045.3448)

Can PDF24 Reader be set up as my default application to open PDF's I encounter in emails or as links on a web page?

I get the sense that PDF24 is as powerful a set of tools as the copy of Acrobat Professional 8 I bought back in 2008.

At almost 84 I don't need all those tools, but I would like a reader that lets me copy and paste text in the PFD file.

[Got you beat, made 84 last week.]

The problem with PDF Readers is they are not Editors/Creators and can't make many, if any, changes.

As Berton says, to edit pdfs you need more than a reader.

I see pdf24 Creator as given here is described as more than a reader.
Best free PDF editors in 2024 | TechRadar
we rated it as one of the best free tools, going above and beyond what's expected. It’s full of features, and has everything needed to create and edit PDF documents. While we noted that it lacked more advanced features usually found in premium tools like Adobe Acrobat DC, we felt that most users will find more than enough utility within PDF24 Creator.

The Windows-only tool serves up a PDF editor for free document creation, PDF merging, PDF compressing, and converting PDFs into other formats. You can even optimize a PDF for the web or apply OCR to a PDF, so that you can convert scanned images to text.
As to setting a program as default- can you not set it as your default in the normal way?
Choose Default Apps in Windows 10

E.g. via rt click, Open With, or in Settings, Default Apps.
What exact dfficulty are you having in trying to do so?

I've also kept an eye out for pdf-related giveaways over the years so I can do some pdf editing on the very rare occasion that's necessary.

There are some online options e.g. search for
    on line free pdf editor

The question was about a Reader but the desire is for an Editor, different critters from the same publisher/s. I'd also go with PDF24 Creator since it is free at Solutions for all PDF problems - 100% free - PDF24, probably will on my latest computer I got cheaply just to get the year of Microsoft 365 [about half the value of the computer itself].
