Is there a search program that indexes for offline searching?

Is there software like everything or windows search itself that keeps its indexes to be searchable when a drive is offline?

I want to start turning off my USB archives when not in use.

Just asking why would you want to search for data that is not accessible? Kind of a misnomer

Also the drives will be indexed by default from windows but when they are offline then you won't get those results. You may want to elaborate further because atm your questions kind of does not make sense.

You may also not be aware but there is zero benefit to putting your disk into offline mode, it will still be in a somewhat active state and also still powered on, just that you won't be able to access it until you re mount the drive.

You mean you want to browse without physically searching a drive?

Windows already offers built in indexing. Why bother with another 3rd-party app. I keep mine off. It is constantly keeping the
index up to date and honestly never once really help me to find what I need. Maybe your SSD will do better. Same with
Firefox keep refreshing page ( keep reloading and disk-caching every page you have open ) which could be turned off.

Nowadays I just organize my files into categories ( folders ) and search within those

Everything (and Agent Ransack, my favourite) allow you to export the results to text, csv, whatever (both have options). The resulting file may not be sorted, but is then searchable. Just installed everything to confirm it also offers this.

In Everything.exe go above to File | Export. Now you can open that file with Everything.exe at your leisure.

Everything.exe is so massively capable of doing things with search parameters and regex it's like Notepad++ but for searches. I use Everything.exe with some advanced search parameters for computer research on my computers. Watch one of my videos about what I can do.

This was posted to a sevenforums help thread. (Use a higher resolution if possible)
