Hello guys, thank you all for this thread! I managed to make a new Win10XPE. But now I want to give this .wim file a permanent place on my notebook harddisk. So i can kind of dualboot it when needed (as recovery).

How can i do this (without grub4dos, ntloader etc.)? I only want to do this with original windows EFI files on EFI partition.

This is how it looks, my harddisk (which is GPT, not MBR):
-EFI partition with original windows EFI files
-NTFS partition (here I place my windows VHD and my new made Win10XPE wim file

i tried it with BootICE: but getting error 0xc000000f
a recuired device isn't connected or can't be accessed.

I'm out of option on my side here now ....:)
Anyone can help or point me out why this error keeps popping up?
How and where do I need to start to make this dualboot: windows VHD, and my Win10XPE.wim
how to make the wim boot next to my vhd? Can anyone please help?

    Thanks in advance all!
In windows PE you can set your recovery image to winxpe

Go to the very first post and look at the Bottom File Option... Or Replace the existing WinRE.wim with the Boot.wim from your Win10XPE Build.. You would also have to Rename the Boot.wim from your Win10XPE Build to WinRE.wim .. then when you envoke recovery - win10xpe will be loaded... But Better off using a separate partition..

@Kyhi - Is there any way to run ImageHealth on a Win 10 on HDD that is not booting up? Like any way to point IH to Offline Windows if one boots from a Win PE or Win RE?

Image Health was mostly written using DISM "Online" commands - so to answer your question - most commands will not work on "Offline Image"

Thank you for the cmd. I will look in to it further.

Thank you too. But may I aks what you mean by "Go to the very first post and look at the Bottom File Option..."
I looked at page 1 of this thread, is that what you mean? But didn't see File Option?

Anyway: I don't use a normal installed windows as said. I use a VHD to boot off my windows system.
So there is no Recovery partition in my system; thus i can't replace the WinRE.wim with my boot.wim.
So this means, there will be no option for me to boot off from my wim? Only if I restore the recovery partition?

Only if there is a recovery partition om my disk?

Where is your VHD stored??? Has to be on a "Drive" somewhere.. You would add a XPE Folder to that Drive - then create boot entry... Sorry if you can not find the "First Post" of this thread...

Hi all, I have an interesting issue. I had not tried Win10XPE on my new laptop, so decided to give it a whirl.

I created an iso, with just two apps added (Macrium Reflect, Firefox) to test it.

The creation of the iso worked fine, so I then tested it in a virtual machine and everything worked fine including network connection.

I created a usb drive and all worked fine.

I then created a small partition, and copied contents of iso to it, and created a boot entry as I have done many times in past on old laptop.

However, when I boot into it, it starts up, but the programs are nowhere to be found. It seems to start displaying desktop icons, then it glitches, and seems to revert to the base iso with no programs being shown as icons, or even available via start menu. Somehow the programs are getting lost? I have 16 GB RAM, and the partition I created is 5GB.

I cannot think for the life of me why the iso should work if booting from usb drive (and Hyper-V) but not when booting from a partition on hard drive (nvme drive if that is relevant).

    Any ideas?

If you did not set Build Core / Main Interface - option "Run All Programs From Ram" then it is looking for the "Programs" on the Y partition (which is flagged by CDUsb.y )

I am sure the "Programs" folder is there - but the Drive letter was not properly assigned

Thankyou my friend. That was exactly the issue - so long since I used program, I had forgotten that LOL.

Only issue now is sorting out drivers from my optane drive so I can see that as well, but I think I know what to do here.

Use the Build Core / Main Interface - "Export" Button to export and sort Drivers from Host OS.... Then just Copy over & Integrate required Drivers
