    Problem opening notepad.exe

I cannot open files with notepad.

If I try to open notepad.exe directly C:\Windows\System32, I get this error (translated from french) :

"Windows does not find notepad.exe. Verify that you entered the correct name and try again"

    Why is that?

    Thanks

Hello Trogne, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

notepad.exe should be in the "C:\Windows" folder instead.

It is also in C:\Windows, and I cannot open that one either.

How exactly are you trying to open it? When you speak about the exact folders, it sounds like you are usin the command line... I would just go through the Start menu and click the Notepad entry there...

I have the error if I double click on notepad.exe, and if I right-click open as an administrator,

With start menu, I type notepad, and I see notepad. But cannot click on notepad. I can right-click open as an administrator, but same error.

If I rename notepad.exe to something else, nothing happens when double-click, but I don't have the error.

And you say this is only happening with notepad.exe. Interesting. I think it would help, if you could google for the exact error message in English language. What is the exact wording of your French error message and do you maybe already know what the exact English wording is?

Sounds like your installation is corrupt, this happens when you're trying to install any Operating System in the world, some files are not copied correctly, it's the system's fault. so I reckon you either repair your Windows installation.

Unless someone else suggests a better solution.

Does this happen with any other .exe files?

If not, then you might see if running SFC /SCANNOW may help.

    It's only happenning with notepad.exe. Where can I download notepad.exe ?

And like I said, if I rename notepad.exe to blabla.exe, I don't have the error when double-click blabla.exe. But nothing opens.

The SFC scan should be able to fix the system file.
