Burning to cd

Thanks Berton, I'll speak to my man. The p c isn't that old so he might sort it out for not a lot. All this to put a few nursery rhymes on a cd :)

Go into Device Manager and uninstall the drive (if it shows). Then reboot, Windows should find and reinstall the drive and it should work after that. If you have any third party burning software installed, you may have to uninstall and reinstall that.

If it's a burner then it's likely a driver issue, try and update the drivers

Can't play c d's any more and device not recognized so burner either duff or not compatible with new O S. I can live without it for the time being. Thanks again for all the input.

Do you have software to play CDs?

I must have, because I've played them in the past. I assume W M P will have the software.Forgive my ignorance, used to find my way round 7 easily, still learning on 10. The strange thing is that all of this has happened since I downloaded 10 and I can't help thinking that there is a connection here. Anyway,my p c man is going to check the drive and if I need a new one, he will put one in for £15 so we'll see what he comes up with. He hates 10 by the way.

When as you say the drive is not recognized, do you then speak about the device manager not recognizing the drive?

If the device manager does not recognize it, then this is no WMP problem at all - then for some reason the drive is not detected properly by Windows...

I would then remove it from the device manager and do a restart to have Windows add it again. If this does not work (e.g. because the device manager does not show the drive), you might have a look into the BIOS. Most BIOSes have some kind of start-up options, where you can define, in which order the PC tries the different devices in order to boot from them. *Do not change them,* only have a look: It the CD drive still isted there or is it also not there?

My computer man tells me I'm one of many who have had the same problem. Apparently it's a Windows 10 problem and he is trying to find a fix.

What software have you installed in your Windows 10 system that allows you to play CDs? If you do not have any installed, then you might want to install some software. I really think that your "computer man" is blowing smoke up your butt, there are no known issues with this. WMP player should do the trick, go to your default settings and make sure that it is set as your default.

I didn't know this saying, but I guess I thought something similar.

What we would actually need to know is:

Is the CD drive recognized correctly inside Windows? Open the Device Manager and see, if it listed there and, when you double click it, if it says "the device is functional/working fine" (or whatever the English wording of the status code is).

After you have figured that out, we will at least be able to tell, in which part of the system you have to search for the problem. Currently we can't really help you...
