MTS video - Occasionally can't play After Upgrading from 8.1 to 10

After upgrading from Windows 8.1 to 10, more often than not, if I double-click on a .mts video file it will open in "movies and TV" and give the error that this is not a supported format. If I keep double-clicking it, it will eventually play normally. I see the same behavior if I right-click and open with Windows Media Player... sometimes it plays fine, sometimes it says it's not a supported format. WTH?

Media Player plays my MTS files just fine. Are you sure all your files are the proper format?

Yes, I'm pretty sure. The files came directly off a Cannon video camera. I've have had some of them for years and never had a problem playing them. I just upgraded from 8.1 to 10 yesterday and that is when the problem started. The odd thing is, sometimes they will play with no issues, and at other times they will say it is not a supported format - The same file it just played. Looks like it would be all or nothing. I'm not sure if it's possible for 2 different codecs to be "fighting" with each other or not, but there was never a problem until the 10 upgrade.
